t2 trainspotting and mad max fury road are alright

the rest i can think of are mediocre or really really bad

Ghostbusters: Afterlife has its moments. It's too conscious of what it is, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Technically, The Lord of the Rings is a legacy sequel, and that was pretty good.

Does Star Trek TNG count because that led to 25 seasons of TV and four films. That has to be the most successful legacy sequel of all time.

seconding Twin Peaks, Blade Runner 2049, Mad Max, and Top Gun. the new Beetlejuice was pretty decent for what it was. I'm praying for Constantine 2. but contrary to the subject of the thread, I want to send one up for 28 Years Later, one of the most bafflingly and offensively retarded movies I've ever been subjected to. it is uncommonly bad. it is Joker 2 levels of bad. it is a bizarre attempt by the series' original director to cannibalize one of his earliest successes and turn it into a vessel for something totally unrelated and unwelcome. it is an anti-sequel. it is not merely mediocre slop; it is carefully and intentionally made, and exceptional in its awfulness. if anybody tells you that they genuinely like this movie, I think it is safe to consider that legal proof that they have no taste whatsoever.
