Hi, sorry, but im new-ish and im unsure if posting here would be an OK thing to do? im not really sure what qualifies as a bad necro, but i was looking for a gunpla thread on here and this seemed to be the most recent one

Don't worry, most people get busy with things relating to real life and forget. Now, I built 2 kits since my last post. I got the gridman sigma and dyna dragon super mini-pla, which took a while due to fiddly pieces. Then I decided to build a legioss kit (Legioss is a transforming ship from Genesis Climber MOSPEADA (or Robotech new generation for Americans familiar with that)) and this will serve as a public notice:

DEAR GOD, THIS KIT IS NOT WORTH IT!

Firstly, its a kit that requires glue (and no, its not from the 80s, when I sleuthed it out, its from late 90's (and is latest revision too)), and secondly its way too fiddly for needing glue for really tiny parts for hinges, and those hinges never held too well, so that meant more super glue, because testone model glue would not work

(Side note: for those not familiar with car or plane kits, they had lower moving parts so you could use testone glue and let it dry over a day, bonds good but takes too long)

This also marks me doing a custom paint job, personally I'd rate it stupid out of retard learn to paint, but I'm hard on myself for no reason. Enjoy some of these pictures... because transforming this thing is fiddly as hell

as for myself, im a beginner with only a few models under my belt (started with a 30 Minute Mission, and graduated into actual gunpla, as well as i've built the bandai spirits Evangelion Unit 01, but the other day i purchased a Hexa Gear Bulkarm Lumberjack, and i've never put anything like this together before, so i went to any forums i frequent to see if there were gunpla threads (im a long-ish time lurker here, but never really picked up on posting etiquette other than to not powerlevel)
 
Anyone else build the 1/144 Windam kit that came out earlier this year? I think it's kind of set the new standard for what I want to see in 1/144 scale grunt suit kits.

Generally speaking, if you're bumping a thread with new info/content (or in the case of 'interest' threads like this, just want to kick off some new discussion) necroing seems to be mostly accepted.

I've never watched a Gundam series in my life and I don't particularly care for the "classic" Gundam mech design, but I do like them as model kits. I just invested in an airbrush so that I can do full custom paint jobs. Since I have no real attachment to the source material, I've just been picking up some cheap <$20 kits that I think look cool to practice my painting on. I'll post them here once I make some decent headway into it.

same here, i've never watched any of the gundam series ever, dont know if i ever will. i just like the mech kits lmao.

personally i use oil/laquer paints to do my painting, dont really have the room for an airbrush setup
 
I watched the old Gundam (from the 70's) didn't get far (yet watched Robotech front to back) but it was OK, it wasn't my cup of tea. The mech design is interesting, I will give it that.

i watched like, half of the original, i think? i remember it being a movie, but it was like over 3 years ago so i dont remember. only mecha anime i've watched to completion is both evangelion series.
 
Ive got a few figs from the shows ive watched in the past. Next cop will be tallgeese from Wing. Its essentially a coping mechanism to keep me from buying warhammer figs. I miss the zoids models from the past with wind up motors.

Honestly i almost got into warhammer figs, but ended up going the route of model kits. I couldnt even tell you why lmfao. I actually have a few miniatures from the time before i got into models.
 
Doing a bit of custom work on my Windam because why not. Will probably paint next weekend.

Replaced the shit-tier ankle guards it comes with because the fuckers would never stay on the socket. I think the armor bits look pretty good, with a bit more sanding and parts fitting I bet I can improve them more too. I also swapped out the original waist armor on the sides with the little beam pistols from the Strike Noir, and shortened the backskirt since it got in the way of posing.
 
My dream gunpla would be Master Grade versions of Sentai mecha. Give me zords that transform and combine. Release the sentai ones and I can pretend they're the PR equivalents. Superminipla just doesn't scratch that itch and I can't find any for sentai that reasonably ship to the UK.
 
Have a MG Dark Hound on my backlog and a MG 00 Raiser on the way. Finished the MG Kyrios a few weeks ago and decided to take a break. Has anyone built that Wargreymon model that came out recently?
 
Christ, looking at this thread is like going back in time to 2015 when this forum actually had hobbies that didn't involve shrieking about the Jews all time.

Anyway, I have about 70 kits by now. I can quit anytime I like.

Try http://www.gundammodelcenter.com/. They sell most every 3rd Party kit out there. Super Nova, Dragon Momoko (also known as Model Comprehend and H.L.J) and Hobby Star are all known for their unique designs and high quality plastic. They're still not as good as 'official' releases, so I definitely wouldn't recommend them for a beginner, but if you know how to do basic structural adjustments (cutting pegs, sanding joints, etc) and have gentle hands, the results can be absolutely beautiful.

Oh, and I'm also into Kotobukiya's line of Frame Arms Girl/Megami Device kits. They're like anime character figurines, but fully articulated model kits. A lot cheaper, too. Buying them makes me feel like the elite kind of weeb. I don't merely buy my waifus, I construct them.

Bonus points: There's a third-party version of these kits with unique details. Including an Israeli catgirl biker. Truly, we have reached peak humanity.

I keep getting ads from newtype trying to sell me BLM decals, but ive not seen any other shops sell them.

anyways, i went out in search of paints today, and ended up a few cities out when i found a general weeb/nerd store, and i ended up coming back with no paints but another few models. beats the price i wouldve had to pay getting them offline, tbh. also, on the topic of blacks, a friend sent me this from the LA bandai popup store.
