my mom surfed in Florida in her youth
which meant she hung out at the beach and every now and then, just before a hurricane came through there would be enough waves to actually surf

I live right next to the coast but I've tried and failed at learning to surf. Sucks that I can't go from laying down to standing up quick enough. Sucks too in California because you have to put on a full wetsuit, especially further up north. I like bodyboarding though, I do it casually.
