@Town Drunk So my mom was always generally a pretty polite and nice person to other people but she couldn't stand Jehova's Witnesses and would be outright rude and hostile towards them if they showed up. Apparently this is because my mom worked in a hospital and around the time my sister was a baby a Jehova's Witness mom with rh- negative blood gave birth, this was before in utero treatment for that, so the baby needed a blood transfusion and the parents refused so the baby died. My mom had the same blood type so had recently gone through the same thing when my sister was born and my mom just couldn't handle watching these people just let their baby die because their retarded religion forbids blood transfusion and hated the entire religion after that.

How often does that type of thing actually happen? Like a parent just letting their kid or loved ones die because medical treatment would go against some Jehova's Witness bullshit?

That was big problem, and still is somewhat.

A lot of kids died because the parents refused blood transfusions. It was so common that that if your kid got in an accident the "Hospital Liason Commitee" would be called from the headquarters to show up or be an advisor to defend the legality of it, and try to convience the parents to not give in and accept the treatment.

If a court order pre emptempted the parent's desicion this was persecution.

I personally never knew anyone who had this happen, but they had stories in the Watchtower (the magazine they study from) that told stories of children dieing, and remaining faithful to the end, and how that was inspirational.

I also heard stories from Ex Jws about being disfellowshipped for caving in to save their childrens lives.

This was a large PR problem for the leadership. So they got "new light" about a decade ago. New light is when a policy change is made, because they have a new understanding of the scriptures, the old view wasn't wrong, they were always right, but they are flawed men trying their best.

Note: if you disagreed with something, and new light proved you right, you would not get un disfellowshipped, because you showed a rebelillous attitude at the time.

Now you can get blood portions. Plasma, or platelets, or both together if they have been been seperated and re combined. I don't recall the reasoning behind it, but it's optional and most old school JWs still carry a NO BLOOD medical card in their wallet. My family included. Because even if you are unconsious, if you recieve blood, you are guilty unless you made it obvious you didn't want to.

Those cards were passed out every year and you would put the new one in your wallet like replacing an expired credit card.

@Town Drunk , How popular were those JW films and series in the community? I watch this shit all the time on Youtube, they're cringe kino, but I wonder how seriously people in the religion take these films.

I don't know about those, but they started making videos for kids a decade or so ago. The most infamous one is Sparlock the wizard, where a young boy borrows his friend's toy, and is told by his mother that magic makes Jehovah sad, so she guilts him into throwing the fictional charecter in the trash.

It got a lot of attention for how crazy it was, and I can't say the others in that series are less deranged.

One would think if you were tying to preach to the whole world and convert them, you wouldn't be so copyright happy, but they went hog wild. Unsuprisingly all I could find was ex JWs discussing it, and YT poops about it.

I never though I'd tell anyone to go the JW website, but I imagine if you want a laugh thats the only place to find them now.

I guess at least they're trying. That all sounds pretty awful though. I was never sure how much it was overblown. Like if it was one of those things only the really die hard ones that did that or if it was a widespread thing.

That's what I don't get about them. Their religion is so fucking boring and brain dead. The art sucks, the music sucks, the preaching sucks, and everyone has room temperature IQ and no education. I mean even other fundie low churches have some decent music, speaking in tongues, or at least bombastic preaching. It's amazing the JWs are even successful with the religious equivalent of unflavored oatmeal.

There is a reason they are dying off. The average JW is 60+. Very few young people, all born in. I've heard it takes 10,000 hours of service (magazine selling) to get one new convert. Ex JWs ran these numbers, so no source.

I often wonder how they expect to convert other Christians. Everything is a downgrade. No, your mother is not looking down from heaven on you, she's rotting in the ground. Will you spend eternity in heaven? No you will be a farmer on earth for eternity.

My brother moved to Utah to preach to Mormons, he had no success.

Makes you big think how Catholics ands JWs get hit with this accusation all the time but not Orthodox Jews or pozzed Christian sects.
