Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!
I'd say that this site's attitude is "We don't care what you're interested in as long as you aren't a pedo, but we still get to make fun of anime avatars/fans if they're being cringe". Null hates anime and several other users do, but despite that I think around 50% of the site likes anime. Several longtime users are anime fans too. I appreciate that Null won't ban anime avatars or anime discussion unless it's pedophilic because he's a free speech absolutist.

This one dude who donates to Josh on MATI sent an anime Blu-ray to his PO box and Josh told everyone that he had it destroyed. Dude hates anime to such a cartoonish degree that I think he's playing it up but he also seems to think like 98% of anime is moeshit about little girls which is weird because given his age and love for old adult swim, you'd think he would have caught a few anime he liked that aren't like that.
I meant the cultural concepts, but that's still real shitty. I should look back to see if Mr. Popo got fucked with, but I imagine earlier publications pre-2007 were left untouched.

I think it's just tainted for him. During drop Kiwi Farms and our banishment to TOR, I started a Q&A thread to try to find a anime he would like if he ever decided to watch one. The conclusion was... there isn't one, because even if you meet his VERY high standards, the man just doesn't like it. Probably from moderating 8chan if I'm being honest.
A bit late, but Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet became 10 years old this year. I highly recommend it, it breaks a few genre molds and memorable enough I still remember it after a decade.

I think that one of the big commonalities around cows is that you care about it the more it is connected to your hobbies (ie, a person who uses Tiktoc would care more about their cows, or women care more about fat women cows).
As a huge amount of cows are anime adjacent, a good chunk of the users at least somewhat knows anime. Though not many actually follow anime seasonally, and instead sticks to what is trending (for both users and cows). It helps that over the last decade anime stopped being a weeb shit and instead became the only valid alternative to shitty western media.
Plus the site doesn't care as long as you don't engage in personal creepy shit.
I kinda wish monmusu shit explored its own concept a little bit more. Every new thing that I find always falls back into the same ol' tropes.
I feel like they are written by a machine that thinks that you have to write phrases like "I can't hold it back anymore" or "let's do our best!" for your shitty comic to be successful. The only comics I've seen that don't do this are Touhou comics, unironically interesting ones since they talk about their own universe and the happenings in there.
How hard is it to write about a scorpion guy or girl explaining what's like to be a scorpion?

Mr.popo is a genie, not black, so he gets a pass probably. PROBABLY. Maybe not in the eternal "current year" anymore but I never checked.
Still it's kind of interesting how much of a complex localizers have over black characters in series where characters all got goofy exaggerated expressions having visible lips. Usually in stuff like that there's also white guys who have those kinds of lips too, but it's only bad when black people have them because something something blackface. Doesn't matter if the character is the most fleshed out and non-racist thing ever, they WILL be censored. West coasters really are out there taking lips off niggas shit's fucked up.
Somehow, despite all this, Usopp Got blackified in Netflix despite being a big lipped jew-y looking guy in the source material. Makes you think...
It's common in fanart for Usopp to be black. Oda saying he'd be from Africa (Morocco, most likely) made it guaranteed he'd be depicted as dark-skinned.

Usopp's home island he comes from being a close equivalent to "africa"(a whole continent) doesn'tmean he's dark skinned, yet a lot of stuff has run with that despite him being oconsistently depicted as light skinned or sometimes with a tan in the offical media. You don't see fan art of the other people from his island like that, just him. Some of the political shit happening in his region is kind of similar to various african countries. Always struck me as more jewwy, like the jews that used to live around the egypt area before muslims moved in.
Also Netflix made Sanji British which goes against the narrative about them doing 'casting accurate to da's prior statements". they just wanted a black usopp, he doesn't even have usopp's hairstyle. The guy playing him made an effort despite not doing the kinda raspy "usopp voice" thats weirdly every version of usopp regardless of dub or language.

What genre molds? It's a run-of-the-mill wish-fulfilment fantasy and another take on the 'noble savage'/'evil colonialist' tropes, riddled with more tree-hugging nonsense than whatever Greta Thunberg ever stood for. The only people who flock to Gargantia are coomers who are into 12-14-year-old girls - no wonder, because the character designer mostly draws hentai. Only the robot was cool.
From what ive gathered grom MATI, Its what he was recommended from 4chan, Moe shit, which you either like or hate. Combine that with him modding 8chan and the never ending CP storm from the lolicons, i think it kinda forced him to hate it by default
