I couldn't really see a 1984 kids adaption without absolutely messing the entire story up. (Which this Animal Farm trailer already does anyway.) Even if they shoehorn a happy ending with Winston defeating Ingsoc (similar to what was done with the old animated movie of Animal Farm), they would basically whitewash everything that was important to the actual book.

Or not even that... make Winston and Julia BIPOC lesbians, and then whitewash all the important story elements.

So I heard the justification the filmmakers used to drop the anti communism message is that it is not "relevant" in the modern world.

Just look at the average Twitter Bio or NYC's new mayor and say that with a straight face.

A part of me thinks that this might be the actual intention, (especially since in the western world, only boomers still care about the cold war, let alone Stalin), but another part thinks that maybe its aware? The more I rewatch the trailer, the more I can predict where its going: The rich human woman is going to be the actual villain, not Napoleon. Napoleon is just a victim who's too stupid to know what optics means. And then they'd... all rise up against the humans again?

The implications of this are just... weird. The only way that this can make sense is that they drop the Stalin allegory altogether, and say that the only real evil villains are CEOs.

Maybe the brain fog is kicking in again or I'm thinking too hard about this.

Ironically this is the kind of movie everyone probably thought the Mario movie was going to be. It has this "COMING THIS SUMMER" vibe all over it. Where every casting choice is retarded, the director is a retard, and its made to try to please every person that watches it with "le capitalism bad" memes and all the hip references the young'uns will get.

That's not an earthquake you feel. That's George Orwell spinning in his grave so fast he's pushing the tectonic plates with the sheer force of how hard is body is cringing from this nightmare fuel of a "film."

Unfortunately, this is exactly what I expected it to be when I first heard about it.

When I heard about this I was expecting something like the new Planet of the Apes films which Serkis starred in. CGI heavy, but fairly serious. Might be shit, but they'll try.

Guess I'm still naive at heart. This is beyond parody. This isn't some video game or 80's toy franchise they're ruining. They're turning fucking George Orwell into a Minions movie. At least none of the comments are buying it. All we can do is hope this shit bombs hard and gets forgotten immediately. But the fact they're even trying is very disheartening.

It’s a common thing in Hollywood to really hate Animal Farm for fairly obvious reasons. It’s a really good telling of how rebellions turn to tyranny and how governments/ unions can be worse than what they replaced. Worse it specifically targets communism. Commies who hated On the Waterfront really hated Animal Farm because Orwell had fundamental issues with Champagne communists and actually was able to understand why people might oppose socialism and communism.

My understanding is this movie has been done and looking for a distributor, but nobody wanted it.

Angel Studios has recently been branching out from the "faith-based films" that are their bread and butter. I figured this was just a non-fundie film they could get their hands on that, while it looks like shit, has big names attached to it.
