That trailer's a fucking trip - I went from mortification to clapping at how shit it is. All I can gleam from it is that Nicholas Stoller apparently had an idea for a Chicken Run-style children's film which was largely inspired by Animal Farm, then was told by a bean counter that the two were sufficiently similar that he may as well claim it's an adaptation of Animal Farm.

I'd say this picture appears perfectly suited and formulated for the slop troughs frequented by the billions of fiends who earnestly believe that clicking "like" on a website is their only outlet for political participation. Now I want to see someone use prompts to generate an AI slop parody trailer for Watership Down in this style that credits Hunter Schafer as voicing a "gender-swapped" Hazel.

I find it interesting that the slop adaptation of Animal Farm that strips away the anti-communist message is releasing on May Day...hmmmmm.....
 
If I had to say one good thing about this movie, it's that the filmmakers' attempts to downplay the anti-communism message are going to completely backfire, because Angel Studios picked up the distribution rights. For those unaware, Angel Studios is a conservative film company that specializes in distributing movies with positive and uplifting messages, especially those of a religious nature. They even released a documentary about the dangers of communism earlier this year called Live Not By Lies.

And if that's not enough, take a look at the description for the Animal Farm trailer.

They straight-up mention it's an anti-communism story. So much for downplaying that aspect, huh?

He is building the kind of resume that used to get one run out of showbiz on a rail. The Interview, Sausage Party, Santa, Inc., This Is The End, and now this one, as well as The Boys in a producer role, and the reviled The Studio on Apple+. Great track record!

I suppose it's only Jewish nepotism and/or his previous hits that he banks on that this smarmy turd still has any relevancy in media.
 
I saw a bunch of posts on r/movies trying to cope with this trailer and say that Serkiss and co. are making a version of the story that is accessible to a younger audience.

I wonder about that sentiment, I truly do. Animal Farm is a simple story, but amazingly layered and it will give you more and more to contemplate the older you get. A child can read this book and understand the very simple idea of "good people can become bad people" and then reread the story when they're older, understanding historical context, why Orwell wrote it, why it's an important piece of Western literature, eventually formulating a more complex version of the impression they had as a child.

You can make an appealing and loyal cartoon adaptation of Animal Farm that tries to appeal to a wider audience. Or you can bite the bullet and accept that adults might enjoy your story more and make it in a way that doesn't insult their intelligence. This is a bit anecdotal, but when I went to see the movie Flow with a friend, I noticed that kids enjoyed the movie a lot less than the adults, who were deeply moved by it. Perhaps that's something to think about.

But I guess a pig riding a car is funny XDD lolzorandumbs

The last thing he was in I liked was the Disaster Artist and him as the Director was the worst character in that movie.
 
I’ll just say it again. As someone who has Animal Farm as one of their favorite novels, this is extremely frustrating to see.

What makes it worse is that kids, or at least the younger generation, very much need to be hearing the message that the novel gave. With all the DEI, “modern audience” pandering, demonization of the other side, and in general, all the virtue signalling being done, the story is arguably just as relevant now.

That no matter how just one may think they are, how noble their goal is, and how much they see themselves as being on the “right side helping others”, power can corrupt one’s mind, and make them just as bad as those they claim to be against.

But nope. Can’t have that being told to kids. Bring on the toilet humor and mangling of the message to instead be the opposite.

What am I missing here? I can't even say "money laundering", because again, why not just create a new generic IP with funny animals?

Why no create a new ip? Either here or the other thread, someone said that the original script was an original story or something like it. What likely happened was what happens now with many IPs. Someone sells a story and producers won't risk money so they use known names and adapt them. They're using Animal Farm to sell a story with funny animals whose context is all the opposite of the book. Likely pitched by a commie.
