When I was a kid, I played with both Barbies and GI Joes, Disney Princess dolls and dinosaur figures, as well as other toys that are otherwise marketed towards either gender. I've never seen it as an issue of marketing, but rather an issue of a lot of parents thinking their little boy shouldn't play with Barbies, or their little girl with Hot Wheels.
