@CWCissey @MMX @Mater Lachrymarum @tepid @fartknocker You bloody big kids!

Seriously, thank you! Though I feel any further suggestions should be sent to me via PM, as I've no desire to derail this thread any further...
(You hear that, @Null - it wasn't me, it was them! )

the nightmare fodder that is Water-ship down

When the Wind Blows (1986)

Definitely not the sort of thing Dobson was talking about but I'd love to see him watch it, it'd give him the prickly wicklies.

Ah, Watership Down and When The Wind Blows - the films of my childhood! Both absolute classics... But yes, you're right - Dobson's reached the point where anything that makes him feel even slightly uncomfortable - for however short a time - can be dismissed as "triggering".

Nearly all of the recent TV-Kid-Shows cover mature "themes" to some extend, what makes them enjoyable for adult audiences (...and attract so many man-children).

Yes, I see what you mean! I shall have to check out those Rocko and Hey Arnold eps too - they sound quite something!

...The "Regular Show" although essentially being "Stupid Fun for people born in the eighties" has some moments when it comes to relationship, but again you would have to watch a lot of weird stuff before it gets even slightly deep.

Just taken a look at "Regular Show" - do you know, I think I've found a contemporary cartoon I can call my own! :)

You asked for cartoons. Not kids shows. :P

All right, all right, you've made your point! Though really, it seems academic, as most (if not all) of the shows I've been recommended were intended for kids - yet look at the themes they cover! *gazes thoughtfully into distance for a moment*

...And Dobson couldn't include a single one in his little diatribe. Instead we got MLP, Spongebob and SU.
*thoughtful gaze transforms into thousand-yard stare*

Dobson's ideal world would just be a harem of lesbians and a bicycle pump

And anyone who transgressed the written SJW law would be condemned to death - by lethal injection.
No potassium chloride. Just the needle... ;)

Ok so lemme get this straight, that twitter rant was all because of a rumor? That hasn't even been confirmed yet? At all? And lumping together a country just because of this said rumor?

And this is story about how Kojima singlehandedly ruined Japan.

Back on topic though. When it comes to cartoons, Dobson seems to reach for the lowest-hanging fruit like 'eehh what's popular with kids these days?' (see: seeking for hidden depths in Spongebob). Shows how bad he is at proving his point.

Haven't been paying attention to Dobbers lately, but he's hitting some high Entersphere tard notes with that "hidden depths of Spongebob" crap.

He would fit right in with them.

I know that episode was trying to be tongue and cheek with the message, but even as a kid I knew you couldn't become drink and an immedate alcoholic after a few sips.

Honestly as a kid my reaction to that show was to steal a beer from my dad to find out if TV had lied to me.

I tended to be the kind of kid who always tried to do the opposite of what I was being told to do to find out if I would get involved in all the wacky hi-jinks the characters had managed to get into so I tended to spend my summer playing in grain silos, old fridges and searching for quicksand. .

Dobsons fanbase is mostly a bunch of tweens so he wants to seem "down" with them......and it comes off a bit like Poochie the dog

'eehh what's popular with kids these days?'

Whoops!

But seriously - regarding the characters he chose for that strip, do you suppose Dobson is being sincere in his tastes - is he really a manchild? Or did he just include SU, Pinkie Pie and the rest 'cause they're currently popular? It's hard to get to get a bead on the man sometimes, he's so disingenuous. I'd like to see him freed from the shackles of his inner SJW censor for just a moment - simply so we could find out exactly what it is he really does like. (Other than... *non-existent bicycle pump sticker* )

I think it's probably a mix of all of the above. They're popular so he draws them to try and get attention, but he also consumes the media and pretends its more than little kid shit because he's a pussy neck beardo freak.

Dobbo's latest shitty Patreon update. Warning: Nookie Bear is over the top smug in this.

On a totes unrelated note, check out my Patreon comic. It has the blacks and gays and shit so you know it's super inclusive, representative and deep!

That's almost the most annoying thing about Dobby, that he's so fucking oblivious and hypocritical. I swear, he's waiting for the Miyamoto-san of comics to come to his door and kiss his ass. Any day now...

Personally i can't believe he didn't include Wall-E and EVE! @robotlivesmatter @notallais

Ah fuck I just remembered that episode of Animaniacs where Slappy loses her mind and goes to a retirement home, and Skippy gets put up in a foster home and can only visit Slappy every so often. Can't remember the title of it.

There's that Hey Arnold episode where both Helga and Arnold skip out on thanksgiving with their families because they're unhappy with how their families celebrate it (Arnold's family celebrates it as 4th of July because his grandma is a bit loony, Helga's family once again focuses on her sister the entire time and ignores Helga). They end up missing their families and go back home, and shows that Arnolds family is willing to celebrate the holiday properly (with some flair) and that Helga's family, for all it's fuck ups, were worried sick about her.

I could list off -a lot- of Hey Arnold episodes that are like that, most of them are Helga centric though.

There's a lot of smaller moments in Gravity Falls too. I guess most obvious one is where we learn why Soos hates his birthdays (his dad never shows up for them), and later in the episode Soos realizes that his dad shouldn't matter that much to him since he was never there for them, but that the Pines family are more his family than anything since they're the ones who cared enough to try to celebrate his birthday.

Now, looking back at these examples, I'm not sure why Dobson didn't bring those ones up. -Every- damn 90's kid watched Animaniacs, but maybe he didn't see that episode because it's a later one. I know he watches Gravity Falls, why not bring up it's more mature themes?

I'm just gonna assume he ignored the obvious one (Hey Arnold has a load of episodes like these, as I said), probably because so many of them are Helga-centric so it makes us sympathize with a BULLY. :'(
Samurai Jack had mature moments. The episodes of X9 and the Lava Monster.

I see what you're saying - essentially, that maturity of subject matter and maturity of treatment are two different things. And I suppose I just wanted to apologise if I appeared to be taking a terribly snobbish, condescending attitude towards cartoons. Like, "oh, Spongebob Squarepants - expresses the basic Existential dilemmas of the human condition so profoundly"... It's just that, with the possible exception of "Up" (which I understand dealt with death, the grieving process etc.), Dobson seems to have chosen such exceptionally fluffy examples of media intended - first and foremost - for children. Which makes his claims to "maturity" laughable.

Can any Kiwis who really know their animation perhaps share examples of cartoons that take "mature" themes - and cover them in a mature way? (Powerlevelling terribly here, but - well, "Ren and Stimpy" was the last cartoon I paid any serious attention to, so I really have no idea what I'm talking about! )

What exactly did you expect? This is the man who'll watch a show because of how "progressive" it is.

And of course he whines about how "mature" kids' cartoons can be. This attitude isn't symptomatic to Dobson, by the way; way too many people on the Internet like to rant about how "deep" kiddie shows can get, especially the kind of stuff animation fans cream over, when in reality most of them, with the exception of a couple of episodes, are as deep as a kiddie pool. (A few might genuinely be deep, if satire counts as deep.)

I just knew he'd go this route somehow. He's no different than the rest.

(If you do want to know what I'd suggest for "mature animation"... "Peace on Earth," Ringing Bell, Shinbone Alley, probably some UPA cartoons. That's as good as it gets, really.)

How long before Dobson starts ranting about the Kojima World Order? And Jesus Christ Dobson. You make generalizations about an entire culture based on what one guy does and don't expect people to call you out on your BS? You aren't a martyr, you're just an idiot with a Twitter.

Some more tweets where he still doesn't realize that it's a shitty fan theory and not actually coming from Kojima:

But seriously - regarding the characters he chose for that strip, do you suppose Dobson is being sincere in his tastes - is he really a manchild? )

I honestly think there is a massive disconnect between the "real" dobsons tastes and the shit he tweets.
Dobson says he hates anime and the anime art style because it "held him back" and he was laughed at for being a weeb.....but the reality is he still probably watches it, jerks off to hentai and buys those Kawaii toys of cute animu chicks. All that changed is he learned to hide it from the world. I know people disagree with me but for Dobson everything's about perception of change not actual change.
A lot of Dobsons likes and dislikes are mostly down to wanting the SJW crowd to notice him. If Brianna Wu says something is offensive or something is to be praised then that's the way Dobsons opinion goes. If Brianna were to tweet that Quiet from MGS was a role model feminist and splatoon was in some way offensive then Dobbie switch sides in theory, he would make some noise on twitter but he would be sitting alone playing splatoon....except maybe this time time with a hate boner.
His Batman rants were fueled by SJW bullshit. Dobson knows balls all about Batman with his comic book knowledge being limited to golden age era batman. Even casual Batfans could poke holes in Dobsons arguments and Bat Spergs could tear him to pieces like wet tissue. It was pointed out to Dobson that Batman Brave and the Bold was everything he loved about Batman but he simply dismissed it as information that just contradicts his world few therefore should be ignored.
Even his gaming habits aren't dictated by personal taste but the limited range of games hes can play. Dobson would likely love to play a game like Witcher or Dragon age 3 but his shitty little mac cant even play Skyrim at better than 10fps. It easier for him to just dismiss everything he cant enjoy as things he wouldn't enjoy and then to further dismiss them as things that its wrong to enjoy.

Honestly if he just did what he enjoyed rather than what a bunch of tweens on deviant art like or what the social justice trannys tell him is okay then his life would be much happier.

Oh my God, imagine being this dense. He doesn't even bother to check if the rumor is true. As far as I remember, it's debunked on the Metal Gear Wiki with sources.

Wasn't this also a goddamn joke theory? It's like mcIntosh and dialy dose all over again.

Dobsons still trying to unlock naked Lara in the original tomb raider and sheng long in street fighter 2

It was a joke theory. Only a fucking idiot would believe it.
