I, too, am bored with the "women and/or children associated with good guys used as hostages or proxy victims by bad guys" theme in media. So I just don't bother to watch or buy said media. It's like magic!

Wow! Even his "Please Give Me Money!"-video is lazy. For an example of his "animation portfolio," look at the video on his Patreon. It starts with his stupid blue bear doing rote hand positions straight from those "SHIT NOT TO DO" tutorials. It looks utterly terrible. And this is the video that's supposed to convince you to give this fat bastard money.

So did Dobson just give up his dream of working on Steven Universe or was applying too hard?
I'm not in animation, but that reeks of laziness. That last bit with the blue bastard, the frames don't match up. I kinda expected him to sound like the Nostalgia Critic with all his raging. For an example of his "animation portfolio," look at the video on his Patreon. I think at some point he tweeted about how his trolls mocked him for never making it, so he got the blue bear blues and played splatoon instead of applying. So did Dobson just give up his dream of working on Steven Universe or was applying too hard?
Im sure it's been posted, but Dobby literally says he could do 3d animation just as well as anyone else so long someone else does all the work in making the models, textures, and skeletons. You know, everything that would go into making 3d animation.
I normally don't advocate violence but damned if Dobson isn't the prime example of why if your kids are getting bullied instead of solving the problem for them you should tell them to deck the little fucker. Otherwise they turn into overly sheltered and utterly broken human beings, unable to solve their own problems.
So basically what he's saying, if I'm reading this correctly, is that there isn't even SUPPOSED to be any incentive available. Patreon is not a paywall, indeed...if that's the case, then it really is a revolving indiegogo or something similar, where people donate money for the nebulous promise of more content and there's no real reason to make the shit in the first place.Patreon dijo:Hey <TheIceCreamMan>!
Thanks so much for writing in. We love all questions, no matter how "out there" they are, so we appreciate you taking the time to reach out!
And in fact, your question is a very good one. In general, creators retain the rights and remain owners of their artwork. Patrons are not buying artwork in the traditional sense, they are pledging support to the creator directly, so that the creator can keeping making cool things. Patreon is not a paywall.
Of course, each creator is different. Some may in fact try to go for more of a physical store-style method of putting out content. in which case the patron may "own" more of the piece. It depends on each case, but we've found that this system is far less common than the one mentioned above.
I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this, your best bet would probably be to reach out the creator directly as they can speak more to their particular actions and intent.
Thanks my friend! We're here if you need anything else.
P.S. Duly noted on the "curious" tip!
Best,
Dave
So the tl; dr version is that Dobson actually has no idea how Patreon actually works. Here's an update from Patreon regarding the question I asked a few days ago:

Now, come one. It's only his main platform to make money with his chosen line of work (tm), why should he bother finding out how exactly it works, how to best make money off of it or what the actual legal basis for that service is. The dude's very busy playing Splatoon and wanking to underage cartoon lesbians, there's no time to do the petty legwork of finding out anything about Patreon. So the tl; dr version is that Dobson actually has no idea how Patreon actually works.
Why am I not surprised?
Well he had an old bully (According to Dobby) add him on Facebook and he made this comic:Years ago i bumped into a guy who bullied me for my first year of high school.
He apologised for being a bit of dick, we had a beer, talked like grown ups and since then we've been pretty good friends.
Now i reckon if it had been dobbie in that situation he would have either
A: muttered under his breath and scuttled away
B: Screamed rape
C: Got out of there ASAP but drawn a comic where his blue bear put the former bully in his place
D: Shit his pants whilst yelling how great hes doing
Life lesson folks - let stuff go
