Almost, Dobby. Almost. You almost had me thinking you had genuinely gone offline to get help. Enjoy Splatoon because your trolls will never let this go.
Really makes you wonder... Is Dobson this oblivious how his own shitty behaviour is what feeds the trolls?
Surely, if he'd stop doing stupid crap, we'd poke fun at his bad art nonetheless, but I have a feeling even that would die down eventually if Dobson would a) just not give a damn and react so hilariously immature towards criticism and trolls b) refrain from doing fucked up shit like being a high and mighty cunt on twitter or -his most recent addition to the hall of shame- suicide baiting.

At least half the crap he deals with on a daily basis is just a reaction to his shitty attitude and Dobson just never learns to close his stupid mouth. Even Chris got that one figured out eventually and held a radio-silence for over a year.

Dobson may be the best or worst advertisement for Splatoon. I mean, look at how addictive it apparently is! You'll spend hours playing it! Shirk all your responsibilities! Give up your career! All to ink more turf! You know you want it! You neeee~eeed it...!

Buy Splatoon today!

Dobby had time to update his Patreon.

"Drew this before my recent health problems. Haven't had a chance to upload it until now."

It's really the strangest thing in that a deliberate caricature/exaggeration of an unappealing character design is somehow a better character design than the original. Maybe because it's down to intentions where the above artist is setting out to make the bear look punchable when Dobson was trying to make it look like the appealing good guy.

It's like with jerks in fiction; when the narrative/author intends for them to be assholes, they fun and we can take amusement in their assholishness and therefore tend to be awesome jerks. When they're trying to paint an asshole as the good guy then it's not fun since the author clearly wants you to think they're so great and kind when they're clearly not and therefore, cannot have fun with those asshole traits and result in a jerk-sue. Actually that applies to what little character that damnable bear has compared to the above comics too.

Dobson isn't even that good at Splatoon from what I've heard. His weapon of choice is basically the game on easy mode and he still has no strategy.

Pretty much. The paintroller covers a large area with little effort and the special weapon turns you into an invincible Kraken who also covers a large area with little effort.

Earlier in the thread I played with the same weapon to point out that Dobson plagiarised the pose of the Inkling Girl losing for his drawing... It took me half a dozen attempts to lose.

The Kraken got nerfed from what I've been hearing.

Honestly, I think he knows full well what he's getting himself into. He just doesn't give two shits what anyone's got to say.
... until they say it, that is.

But he's almost figured it out now, he's shut down all comment sections, left dA and blocks/mutes everyone on Twitter, just to carefully whittle down every sharp edge that might be unpleasant in his little hugbox.

Now I wanna see Dobbers take on Bloodborne and rage about the female enemies that you have to kill.
He'd just endlessly lament the fact you can't win nonviolently by challenging your opponent to a session of "pat-a-cake".

Última edición:
Stritcly speaking, for what kind of artwork he does do, he doesn't need anything more advanced than a basic wacom tablet (bamboo) or a 3rd party tablet (monoprice's are good for the price). Scanning in sketches is fine. His tools are absolutely fine for the type of artwork he does. Talented people can stretch their tools pretty far if they want to or need to and produce some awesome stuff.

The issue really isn't his tools, its his work ethic really. I'm not even really gonna equate talent into that because if he actually put effort into it, he could improve on his talent a lot. He just doesn't want to. He's complacent and content with where he's at, which would be okay if he was just some general hobbyist that likes to doodle and make the occasional dumb comic strip, but he's trying to make money off of it, which is where I draw the line from "complacent hobbyist" to "people are fucking pay you for this shit, pull your fucking head out".

While I would agree that his level or art really would not require to own top-of-the-line equipment, any artist who considers himself a professional and takes his work seriously would invest to keep his equipment and tools up to par with what professionals use, both in software and hardware. That in upon itself shows a level of commitment and involvement in the very craft. An while sketching in paper and later scanning may be a valid method, from an strictly efficiency lens, sketching directly on software using a tablet is a faster, more flexible methodology to get things done sooner and fix mistakes on the spot.

And while indeed the end result is not entirely dependent on the tools, these play a role as part of a whole. It really does depend on a good balance of the three aspects that you mentioned: Tools-Talent-Effort. When a good artist has a weakness in one, he/she will compensate with the other two, unfortunately Dobson is weak in all of them.

I have no issues with artist that exclusively sketch in paper, I've seen some truly amazing ones do so and even livestream such work. But Dobson is such a clusterfuck that I remember years back how he tried to livestream a sketching session but the whole affair was so piss poorly executed that it looked like Public Access TV Amateur Hour. He used a poorly lit work area and a potato of a camera to do the stream. Predictably his viewers called him out on this and in Dobson fashion he chimped out, making excuses about not having the resources to do a proper livestream. After that, instead of listening to criticism and fix the issues before trying again he simply quit ever trying doing another stream (until he has forced to show his sketching process because of the whole "Big Ben" fiasco. )

Honestly, I think he knows full well what he's getting himself into. He just doesn't give two shits what anyone's got to say.

I agree with @Stud2Stud, Dobson is too deluded in his own self righteousness to be aware of how much of a fuck up he is with his behaviour, remember, in Dobson's mind his woes are the result of everyone else's actions, not his. And he most definitely cares about what people say about him an his work, he just kept answering the best he could to any criticism when he still allowed comments in his dA page. Anyone who really didn't gave two fucks about what other had to say would not try to censor anything, nor reply as often as he did.

Then comes the day when he starts to worry about his hugbox turning on him (which given the events of the past few days, may just happen down the line). That only then he'll realize that no one wants to be his friend and secludes himself from everyone but himself. He'll spend the rest of his days, bitching about everyone (including his family) "betraying" him and playing vidya until he dies of a sudden heart attack.

So...

I realize I am sort of late here. I sort of concluded that I was too hard on Dobson. That he was a washed up artist, yeah, so what? Pleanty of other washed up artists on the Internet I don't care about.

Why am I paying attention and talking about him so much? What difference does it make if I leave him alone? Why do I pay so much attention to him? Who is he hurting with his antics?

Sure. There is ForeverPandering's view that he's hurting young artists who look up to him but honestly, I wonder how much of that is even less (See - Flippant remark about mental illness v. Young Fan. Lesbian Teen uncomfortable with his depiction of Lesbians v. Uhg. Who is she to tell him not to celebrate homosexual rights?!)

So I stop paying attention for a while.

Then I come back to this. I have no words for this whole affair.

I know it's really late but I do want to say....

Then why's he like Skyrim so much?

It's not a charming string of family friendly adventures. It has decapitation kill cams.

I can't help but wonder... I haven't seen him talk about it for a while. Mayhaps he is abandoning something he loves for this "I hate violence" image?

THIS EXACTLY. Just the other day I was playing Skyrim and somewhere between slaughtering a whole pack of bandits and decapitating a few Forsworn, I thought to myself what does Dobson even do in this game? And we know he has a huge problem with animals dying on film, how does he deal with having to kill bears to avoid getting mauled?
