💼 Careercow Andrew Dobson (aka Tom Preston)

I gotta say, it's hilarious that Dobson is getting into Tolkien, seeing as how the LOTR franchise is notorious for having almost no interesting female characters. Like, Peter Jackson had to retcon a female elf for the Hobbit films because I don't think there's even a single female character in the book.

Éowyn is awesome thought, and she got shafted in the Jackson movies (no developing in her romance with Faramir in the theater cut)

Who wouldn't kiss this man?

Anyone with taste or self-respect for starters.

Galadriel is pretty badass too, but other than those two exceptions, it's almost completely dominated by male characters. Really weird for Dobs to get into the franchise and not be calling out the unchecked privilege.

So Dobson's angry that the artist on Twitter didn't tag him, but in the past he's complained about people talking about him without his permission. Which is it, Dobson?

Of course it's neither - Dobson wants to pretend he's open to criticism as long as it meets some kind of objective standard, but we all know that he just changes his standards so whatever criticism he receives doesn't meet them. He would not be able to provide an example, either theoretical or concrete, of "good" criticism even if he wanted to.

Is this supposed to be empowering to women, is it supposed to make fun of people who join the navy, is it supposed to be uplifting and get you in a mood to get shit done?

I don't get it.

He's criticising the original poster because it's saying that women can't join the Navy in WW2. Which was true, and sexist (personally I'd prefer women didn't choose to demonstrate their equality by enforcing US foreign policy with violence, but YMMV). While it's not that realistic to expect the US government to produce a poster critiquing the sexism of its own policy, that doesn't change the fact that the poster addresses something that's plainly sexist and doesn't mention it. Which is pretty shit.

However! For all Dobson's criticism of the US military's exclusion of women might be admirable (certainly in comparison to other manifestations of his feminism, which mostly revolve around pop culture and fappable lesbians), his reworking doesn't actually address them. "Hey women, if you want to get into a field you're excluded from due to gender, have a sex change!" is fucking terrible advice, even from the rosiest possible perspective on transgender rights. It's like telling gay people to turn straight if they want to get married.

It's possible that he didn't intend his reworking to be a correction of what's wrong in the original version so much as a total change of subject, but that means that he loses any credit he gets for criticising the original sexism.

So, overall, once again, Dobson shows he has no real understanding of politics and is just trying to get attention from SJW-y types. Unfortunately even your average SJW has a better understanding of gender politics than Dobbie displays here - they at least generally get that if you're going to criticise something for being sexist, your alternative should address the sexism, no matter how idiotic, ludicrous or scarily authoritarian it might be.

As Ass Manager 3000 already said: Nah, that's too smart for Dobson.

Also, it's not really like him, to support transgendered people. Now if he took the image of the sailor kissing that girl in Times Square and replaced him with a girl, that would have been much more like his usual lesbian fetish.

It seems he's drawing something involving two people kissing. Be afraid, fellow Kiwis, be very afraid.

Why is it giving an 'inspirational message'? What's with that trend in the first place? The two aren't even remotely related but I see it all over social media suddenly.
It's a tumblr thing

which is more of a reason why I think Dobson has a tumblr but doesn't say who he is. It's such a cesspool of stupid that he won't be able to be found

Haha, it was the goddamn Hobbit he was trying to defend because he "understands creative decisions better (than, presumably, the unwashed, uneducated masses)?" As if there wasn't enough evidence already, between the Splatoon, "Nintendo is family friendly and therefore the BEST THING EVER" and his obsession with children's cartoons...I'm now pretty much convinced that he is in some sort of psychological place where he desperately, desperately wishes he was a child.

Perhaps his defense of Metroid: Other M is getting a bit stale, so he needs to try to get some relevance by defending a widely-disliked movie that's only a couple of years old.
