Wow I actually liked this guy's work on Brentalfloss the comic, now he just seems like a tool and overall jackass.
He only draws angry or smug faces on his dumb-ass bear fursona, which in itself is frustrating for some reason.
I don't know, nothing seems obviously wrong about his artwork but it comes off as wrong somehow.
Also for some reason his conveyance of happiness or smiling is very forced to me.

The money quote is Dobson reads "more luck if you drew stuff other than fan art or your bitchy blue bear" and hears "Draw more comics, but not the comics people want to see".

In other words he's convinced that people really want to see pictures of his fursona cosplaying.

I don't think it would matter much if he told us. Anything short of being successful from Patreon is laughable because it will come up short on his unrealistic career expectations, especially if it made more money than his art because that means his art is a financial step down & if his art is a step up from his day job, that makes him more pathetic than ever.

He cannot escape the failure.

I think this is the big underlying problem in Dobson's life. His whole identity is wrapped around being an artist when he's just... not. Art is not a valid source of income for him, nor does he have the inner drive to create. He doesn't even make up his own characters anymore, it's ALL fan art and aping other more succesful artists' work now, like a cargo cult.

I wish he would just own up and accept his real occupation, whatever that is. There's no shame in being a janitor. It's an honest job that actually needs to be done, unlike drawing a blue bear cosplaying. But Dobson just can't feel pride and self-worth about anything but being praised for his "art". If he only could learn to see himself as a pretty good janitor (or whatever he is these days) who occasionally draws fan art of his favorite cartoons, he'd probably be much happier because he wouldn't have to lie about it to himself and others. Hell, why not draw a "So, You're a Janitor" comic? I'd much rather read that that than his "So, You're a Splatoonist" tweets.

A very negligent one. Now that I've written that, I think Dobson probably works at a movie theater, because those places are prone to cronyism. Unless it happens to be a big expensive theater, rest assured that the staff are A; all losers, B; all friends and C; do little more than circlejerk at the their jobs.
