We all know that Dobson can't draw worth a shit but the question is, can he actually write? Before you answer, consider that he's never honestly tried before, it's always a popularity contest with him or a mouthpiece for his opinions. Has he ever, sincerely, tried to write a real story before?

The closest attempt was Alex ze Pirate I think, and that was an episodic sort of thing. Series wise, I don't think he ever bothered, especially since he only gives a shit about sobbing about his life.

Of the "happy" faces, two are insufferably smug, two look like the expressions of used car salesmen, and another two look like smiles so horribly forced it's not even funny.

I think he had some other comics where he tried to write stories. Like about two lesbians in Highschool or his Detective Conan rip-off. And his "I am teleported into a different world" story whose name I constantly forget.
I'd say they weren't that impressive... and if they are the only thing to go by: Dobson's fucked.
That's something I'd love to see him do: A comic with actual content, a story... just to see where it ends up going and if it's actually good.
I severely doubt Dobson is capable of writing interesting characters and compelling interactions between said characters. Even if his goal was a very basic story with AzP, the characters were incredibly sub-par and there's no excuse for that. So that's like half of the things to make an interesting plot gone out the window right there.

And "here in the real world"? What is this real world you speak of? In what plane of existence do you live that people would settle with mediocre and actually pay for it? Anyone with half a brain and isn't blind would want to have the best quality work, especially if they're gonna be spending money on it.
Good artists became good because they worked for it. Does he think people get hand picked to have certain talents and skills by the god of talents and everything glorious or some shit?
Oh wait, he probably does.

This sounds so cringeworthy I'm surprised the Patrons that saw it didn't immediately demand their money back.
So... mediocre furry porn amateur author rushes to the defense of entitled whiny psuedo cartoonist because artists are immune to criticism. Do these people think they're just so special because they're actually making money off of their creations and thus they must be superior in some form? Their egos are infuriating but at the same time it's almost baffling.

I wonder if that was part of the reason he wanted to work at a big studio like Disney. Not only would it boost his ego (even more), but I don't think they actually give animators much control over the actual story. That's what the producers and screenwriters do in studios like that, isn't it? In such a business, all the Dobs would have to do is draw the characters asked of him rather than invent his own stuff. It'd be much more disciplined than he would prefer, but at least it wouldn't test his creative muscles that much.

I know it's been said before but it's truly amazing how much life gets sucked out of his drawings if he proceeds on after the sketch stage. His sketches are genuinely not that bad usually. Sure the style and the content are a bit eh but they have a lot more life to them than anything he finishes up.
The coloring is a big part of it as stated, since his shading just doesn't work well, but a big part of it is his lineart as well. I really can't point out what it is about the lineart that bothers me.
The line work is smooth enough, it has tapers and enough width differences to be decent. It just feels like he runs it through an auto-smoothing option and it just looks wrong. I think the lines just might be a little too thick for how small the dimensions of his artwork tend to be. If the dimensions of that image were half again as big and he inked it with the same line width, I think it might work better. He also generally needs to pay more attention to where things should taper off and where the lines should be thicker for certain parts of the drawing.
If that fails he might want to look into just adapting more of a sketchy style for coloring/finishing up his artwork, to take advantage of the fact that his sketches just generally look nicer.
