So maybe I'm just a gender binary cisshet, but isn't defining people and characters by their orientation demeaning? It'd be like saying ...

"Oh, who's the guy that runs that Kiwi Farms place?"
"It's Null, he's a straight man."

Well, I think considering the whole "constant sexual harassment" thing, ms Lesbian kick SHOULDN'T be a romance option.
I mean, that's romanticizing sexual assault, that thing he railed against.

Also it'd be more interesting if it was presented as hopeless, kind of a "harsh truth in life" that unfortunately, it's hard for gay, lesbian and transgender people to actually get dates (and bisexuals if going for the same sex) since the pool is horribly limited.

... But the sexual harassment thing first.

What awesome guns? Is he talking about her bewbs??

I think he means the muscles that I'm sure aren't rendered all that well (see:left upper) granted I can't muscle definition that well either but hey, one of us is a "professional" who thinks they're above criticism and the other is a self-proclaimed loser dork who's not been able to practice much lately due to hand problems.

This is what he hopes for:

With the ending to Korra requiring the creators step up to their blogs to confirm Asami and Korra's relationship, I felt that it might be a good idea to explicitly show my character's sexual orientations to avoid any misunderstandings too.

Atea (far right) is very openly gay. One of my regrets is that I haven't written her as a more complex character and instead have relied heavily on gay stereotypes. A practice I'm hoping to stop going forward.

Talus (the furry beaver looking dude) is Asexual. He has literally no sexual interests what-so-ever.

Alex Ze Pirate (with the awesome guns) is bisexual. I've actually had this in mind for a LONG time now. One of the earliest ideas was to have a romantic love triangle for her. Who does she choose? Sam the boy or Atea the girl? It was a dynamic I hadn't seen much of. Sadly my earlier writing didn't really play that up much and now I hate the idea of love triangles. So the chances of me going back to that plot line are slim at best. But I still like the idea that Alex is bi, especially since Bi representation is so often overlooked.

Sam (the shirtless dude) is straight. I couldn't tell if the posts about a heterosexual flag were genuine, but I decided to go with it anyway. In case you don't know, the heterosexual flag is literally just black and white stripes (sometimes depicted with shades of grey). Boring and ugly, but I think I made it work.

So there you have it! Have a merry Christmas everyone!"

Speaking of, does anyone know when he'll continue his series?

(I didn't know sneakers and sweaters existed in times of the pirates)
I've noticed he's been posting a lot of things involving muscular bare-chested men lately. Is there something you're trying to tell us Tom?
Also I think him being so caught up in the sexualities of fictional characters is a little creepy. Like I'll admit I think it's pretty cool when a really awesome character I like turns out to be gay, but god damn.

He wants to be relevant so he's just pretending to be gay most likely. He did similar shit in the past (CattyN anyone), so this isn't too shocking. Especially if he wants to be acknowledged by the Social Justice crowd.

Dobson, there's no such thing as a "straight person flag." We don't need flags because our lives are already pretty sweet. That's like having an awareness ribbon for people with 12 inch ducks.

Hah, he thinks sexualities are adequate substitutes for personalities.

Finally got caught up with this thread, and good grief. His "Alex Ze Pirate" trash is so unmemorable and lazy that I would rather reread Ulysses again rather than look at it. His ego is absoultely astounding. As a sidenote, though I haven't watched Korra, it makes me happy to see bi characters featured so prominently; what gets me is the need to be so subtle about the depiction of lbgt characters in general. Someone mentioned Clarence banning something, but I distinctly recall depictions of gay men in the background at key points. I'm sure shows like that could simply release different versions overseas, while something like Korra, which has the aspects deeply entrenched in its writing, doesn't have this luxury. I'm sure its one of the many reasons it got kicked to the internet. Having said all of that, Dobbers is no different from those people who shout about Jesus on the corners. They aren't doing anything constructive outside of making people look quizzically at them before chuckling at them.
