Preston says that he turns off the ani-aliasing tool when he draws so it basically makes the lineart look like MS paint shit. He does this so he can use the fill bucket to color easier because he does the lineart and color ON THE SAME FUCKING LAYER.

I haven't had problems doing that on anti-aliased lines in GIMP, with a certain fill bucket configuration.
