Just to be a sperg, you wouldn't go into debt, because no suspect would be found, nor would the police investigate, nor would the courts prosecute even if they did.

Here in the Commonwealth, judges can also sentence you to an Absolute Discharge- kind of like being sentenced to time served in the USA, but the record of the discharge is automatically struck off after 1 year, so you have no criminal record.
