It's not unheard of to have a funeral before the obituary announcement. If I were Joe, I would have had the funeral in secrecy and then a week after announce Janet's passing in the newspaper. Then Andy is forever angry that he was denied the opportunity to call out his boosers at his mom's funeral service.

I have little doubt that when the speaker was eulogizing Mrs Ditch, Andy purposefully began to squeeze a log out into his crinkles.
