an annoying Youtube thing I can't figure out how to disable

You watch a video.

You click off and go back to main.

But the video is still there, in the corner.

In the olden days I used to just close it, but now there's a glitch where even when I do close it, it leaves a blank square in the place it occupied until I reload the page I'm on.

I'd rather this box in the corner just never pop up at all.

How can I achieve this? Is it even possible?

Thanks in advance.

The feature you're thinking of is called it's called "Picture in Picture". I know what you mean and I've had to deal with it on other computers, but I've personally never encountered it on my home computer using vanilla brave, edge or firefox. Sometimes YouTube will just infect you randomly with a shitty feature for AB testing, and you can never tell if it's genuinely bugged or not.

If it's originating from the browser, you might have accidentally enabled it by right clicking a video twice and selecting Picture in Picture

Mobilefagging right now so I can't give it to you directly but I remember finding a Reddit thread after searching up how to disable that shit since it always lagged the page and that Reddit thread had a userscript that disabled the PiP entirely.

If you can find it, it works perfectly.

I find the miniplayer always pops up if I try to click back to main with a playlist running. Only happens on single videos if I press the i key.
But if I click on a video after it's been activated, it adds the video to a playlist instead of opening the proper page. Very annoying.

I've basically made it so I never engage with Youtube's playlist shit.

There's one thing I do when I install a browser and go to Youtube is to use Ublock Origin's select tool and click the miniplayer icon on the video, then save. That way there's no risk of clicking on the icon by mistake.
