I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Amber’s extended family learned she was moving to O city. I don’t know what the family stories about her consist of, no idea what memories of her they have or how they feel.
They have GOT to know, at the very least, that she’s highly problematic. Not sure who else in the family has addictions but being an addict with all the associated manipulation and lying doesn’t necessarily protect you from those behaviours being used on you.
I can see her first visits with family, using the soft spoken tones we saw early in her YT career, hinting strongly at SO many past nasty partners taking advantage of her… while she’s calculating what she can get in terms of drives, company, etc. from other family members.
It may be a while before we get hints that not all is going well for her in Tornado Alley but once she starts, oh boy.
No idea how her mother feels or really thinks about all this but previous comments are right. An addict is ALWAYS an addict and the best you can do is work on your own attitudes and behaviours and try to avoid triggers. For her mom, that will probably necessarily involve limiting time spent together and frequent reality checks from those in her life that can be more objective.
If not, relapse may be a matter of when, not if.
