I feel like "asexual" is the American/Western equivalent of the weirdly specific things in Japanese porn and hentai that are done to sexualize other parts of the body, ones that Japanese law don't mandate the censorship of.

All these made-up sexual orientations are very much a Western thing driven largely by the collective nebulous whims of progressivism. You're not allowed to lust after women, because that's misogyny. That's rape, or whatever. Objectifying women is a serious no-no and so is expressing healthy sexual urges and attractions that are conventionally heterosexual. So as a result of this sexual gratification is found in unconventional ways like diapers and vore and inflation that specifically do not focus on the genitals and parts of the body that are inherently sexual.

"Asexuals" are attracted to things, just not basic biological survival things. 99% of them are simply people attracted to either impossible things or things not related to the sex of the person. Basically, it's not a lack of attraction, they just pretend it is because it makes them sound more oppressable.
