A lot of new, first time parents I know have often lived on takeaway for the first month or two with a new bub, because there was just no time to cook and/or bub would start screaming at the slightest noise from the kitchen. It can take a while to figure it out and find equilibrium if you've never done it before. I do remember the same dead eyed look in my brother's eyes after his first was born, when he was trying to juggle looking after mum and bub whilst working full time. Utter mental and emotional exhaustion.

You are right. He's packed on about twenty lbs. slowly over the course of their relationship. I'm sure Alex would like to blame it on his recovery, but it's crept on so slowly I hadn't even noticed the weight gain until you said something and I went back and looked at old pictures of Noah.

in addition to the new parent stuff, a lot of addicts in recovery will gain weight beyond what they might need to (given many start out underweight). basically cross addict onto food as its more socially acceptable.

a lot of 12 step fellowships will also go out to eat before/after meetings.
