Law Alaska moves to legalize hemp - Separate from marijuana

Alaska's state senate is majority Republican and there Governor is "Conservative" (by modern political standards) if it were legalized it would probably be only for feed and medical.

Southern Alaska has a climate kind of like Northen Washington, you could probably grow some crops and others in your basement.
 
Our economies on the decline since we can't drill ANWR for more oil. I say this is a good thing.

Alaska is located really close to the North Pole, the areas furthest north can get 22-24 hours of sunlight in the summer and the boring fucks in Alaska use this to grow giant cabbages when they could be growing something that would actually be profitable.

This makes no sense. Hemp is a shitty crop that does everything it is supposedly good at poorly.

If something could grow there, why bother with hemp? And why the emphasis on using hemp for livestock feed?

The state is fucking huge. So there is really no argument about a shortage of available rangeland. That takes care of feeding them in the summer. Feeding in winter pasture? Then why not grow rye or barley? That can be grown in the Alaskan interior.

I guess if you want to grow hemp, fine. I just have a hard time wrapping my brain around why you would want to.
 
Hemp is somewhat qualified for this because of its ability to germinate at 0C, late winter/early spring, and rapid growth. Other pioneer feed options with these traits are quickly excluded, for example Kudzu, which isn't enough food content and strips land much too quickly to be viable in the long term.
Alaska needs some in-house construction material developers anyway, might as well start pumping out Hempcrete.

Kudzu? That's what springs to mind when you think of viable livestock feed for Alaska? The western US and Canada use barley, rye, alfalfa, ryegrass, and timothy hay among many others for ruminant feed in winter pasture. Shit gets cold in North Dakota. Start there when looking for viable feed crops to plant near the arctic circle, not the southern US. Jeez.

Also, kudzu is a legume. It is nitrogen fixing. How does it "strip the land" worse than hemp, which is not and doesn't? The nitrogen uptake of hemp is actually quite large making it a rather poor candidate as a cover crop "green manure" hippy bullshit whizz-bang species because you gotta continually add nitrogen to make it grow. My guess is that some idiot confused it with sunn hemp and the idea took off from there.
 
This is industrial hemp, meaning someone grows a shitton of it and sells it as a commodity. Gorwing recreational weed has been legal for a while.

This guy sounds like a George Washington Carver type. He was a big-time peanut shill who invented thousands of different uses for peanuts, and none of them are actually useful. This guy is no different. The Tanana and Matanuska valleys are surprisingly productive areas for agriculture, but there's no point growing hemp there because there are more useful crops than hemp and they're already being grown there.
