There are parts of the new trailer I like, but most of them I like because they remind me of the original film.

They really should have just let Will Smith make the genie his own thing instead of this strange original genie/Will Smith hybrid. I wonder if they realized how uncanny and creepy the CGI turned out and that's why they let Smith physically play the character in many of the shots.

There's no signs that he talks. Just bounces back to my point that they should have included the vizier's son from the fairy tale to serve Iago's role as Jafar's sidekick and also be Aladdin's rival.
It's being reported that Alan Tudyk is voicing Iago. I wonder if they're going with the British accented Iago that was part of the original pitch for the animated one.

This is kinda neat.

I mean, at least the man is showing respect to Robin Williams.

If they are, it'd mess up the two's dynamic since Brit Iago happened when Jafar was supposed to be a hotheaded overlord wannabe instead of a snide, shady, schemer.
Agree. Aside from Robin Williams voicing Genie, Iago stands out thanks to Gilbert Gottfried. And apparently on his Twitter account, Gilbert is retweeting those who are upset with this reveal.

The Genie just can't work in live action (or realistic cgi meant to be live action.) He's so exaggerated in every way, he's practically a Tex Avery character. If they had designed his Genie form to look less human it might have worked.

Imagine this in live action:

The Genie was designed for Robin Williams manic energy. You can't recreate the zaniness of the character because you can't recreate Robin Williams. I don't see it working but I'm sure Will Smith will "crush internet trolls" with his performance just like Brie Larson.

This trailer was better than the rest, but admittedly I thought Will Smith worked best as the genie when he wasn't recreating scenes from the animation i.e. the 'prince' scene or the party scene.

Unfortunately, it also increased my expectations of the actual film, which may not be a good thing in the long run.
