I assume the new DLC caught your eye? Enjoy, regardless. It's fun for the first 30 hours till you discover how samey the current system makes everyone.Bump, just downloaded AoW4.
It's a fun 4x and I definitely recommend it.Bump, just downloaded AoW4.
It's solid 5/10.This keeps getting suggested to me as someone who liked Civ2's Test of Time (which had weird fantasy / scifi versions of Civ2 with multiple overlayed maps) and Stellaris (where you can customize each level of your faction).
I see they're already up to $150 in DLC and a third "season" pass. On the other hand, I see Spiffing Brit has already done a few vids highlighting how lolbroken you can go with the customization.
How's it holding up? Have they descended into cash grab DLCs yet?
I'd recommend Age of Wonders 3 instead, tbh. It's a tighter version of what we have in 4, without the grey goo that is races that can be anything and anyone. This keeps getting suggested to me as someone who liked Civ2's Test of Time (which had weird fantasy / scifi versions of Civ2 with multiple overlayed maps) and Stellaris (where you can customize each level of your faction).

Cash grab DLC is subjective in my opinion. This keeps getting suggested to me as someone who liked Civ2's Test of Time (which had weird fantasy / scifi versions of Civ2 with multiple overlayed maps) and Stellaris (where you can customize each level of your faction).

I also like Planetfall more, but it's because of the sci-fi setting and all the tropes involved (Starship troopers, Borg, Dune etc). It's solid 5/10.
DLC are alright when it comes to content, but the game itself is bloated and unfocused. If anything - this game needs less content but with more impact (e.g. less spells but with better stronger effects).
City economy is fucked, diplomacy is terrible, game balance is shit (in a bad way), combat is alright and customisation is great.
You better get a gog version from rutracker if you really want to try it.
P. s. Planetfall holds better imho. But it lacks customisation.
AoW3 is dated.I'd recommend Age of Wonders 3 instead, tbh. It's a tighter version of what we have in 4, without the grey goo that is races that can be anything and anyone.
Aow 1? I mean, it's charming in its simplicity, but every fight is solved by an over leveled hero. It is also funny to complete a giant campaign map on a second turn by randomly meeting and killing an enemy leader.Planetfall and 4 are dog shit, play the originals newfags.
