Nikka Whiskey is a really interesting story - so interesting that NHK made a docudrama series about it a while ago, which became a huge hit in Japan and Asia (especially Taiwan). Japanese sperg in 1918 is obsessed with whiskey, goes to Scotland to learn the trade and marries a Scottish doctor's daughter, returns to Japan a few years later and helps Suntory open a distillery, and then buggers off to Hokkaido in the mid-30's to establish his own. Hokkaido is kinda-sorta like Scotland (cold, clean air, lots of fresh water) and Nikka flourished there. Fast forward, in 2008 their 20-year-old single malt was voted best in the world at the World Whiskies Awards (blind taste tests!).

If you're into scotch their stuff is seriously good (except Nikka Black, which is only fit for niggers). Didn't think I'd get back on topic, did you?
