Why is it I can only pick male, female, or unspecified? There are an unlimited amount of genders and many people don't fit into the gender binary. We should be able to write in our own genders and freely change them.

It should also force preferred pronouns when someone quotes a person
 
I voted yes, if only for the amusement such a feature could potentially bring.
 
i want to be able to write my true gender, which is delorean on some days, yugo on other days, and edsel on days i'm feeling dysphoric. i have gendered as few myn dared to dream.
 
I voted yes just for the sheer unadulterated autism of it.

Our addition of a customised gender field would be time-consuming (as it would likely require a custom plugin and database change), and constitute an implicit endorsement of a presently unproven concept.

There is not much demand or a need for this. We provide the unspecified option if you decline to select male or female.

This would be done for shits and giggles. Nobody would actually choose a gender that Tumblr considers a "real" gender.

No. I get that OP is just fucking with everyone and I do agree that this feature has potential for a punchline, but there's going to be people who don't "get it" and throw a hissy fit about it which in turn will cause problems for the moderators. It's not a bad idea, but it'll just be one of those things that gets ruined by some retard.
 
Putting a third option of "transgender" should just about cover it, honestly.

Tumblr considers all genders "real" genders. Even things that are obviously not genders are genders.

For example, my gender is Johnny Bravo.
