Having seen both, I will say it is not better than Gran Torino. Torino delves way more into the grumpy old man, has an overall better reason for him to be that grumpy, and goes way more into the lives of those around him without too many stereotypes or clichés, and the ending of Otto just didn't pack the same kind of gut punch that Torino has. It was an okay watch, but not something I will rewatch occasionally, like I have with Gran Torino. Also Gran Torino doesn't have trannies etc forced in for the sake of it.
