I still wish the 9070 and 5070 would be the price that the rx 570 and 1050 ti were at ($120-$150), but I know that's never going to happen.
Sadly... The nVida 5070 its a fucking JOKE! Its core ratio more likely on par with the old 1050ti ratio compared its respective flagship card.

RTX 5070 / RTX 5090
6144 / 21760
~28%
GTX 1050ti / GTX Titan XP
768 / 3840
~20%

The xx60 series average is 36%, clearly seen starting with the 40xx series nvida up-selling their card 1 tier higher.

It's pretty much my only choice because of the discontinuation of the 40 series from Nvidia. I do not understand why AMD refuses to compete with Nvidia. That's definitely worth an investigation.
because one look at steam's hardware survey makes it obvious: the amount of people who spend $2000+ for a GPU are in the single digits. the meat is in the mid/lowend, where AMD has been competing the whole time.
all it does is "free" advertisement in form of mindshare for retards: "if the XX90 is that fast, that means all the other cards are faster than the competition too!!".

this ties into the first point again, because even when AMD did compete at the top end people still kept buying green, either because of unironic shills, fanbois (I blame consolefags bringing over their consolewar shit) or simple overhyped features like physx (how's that working out on a 5090?), never mind if it's even applicable to their specific needs and wants.
it's like buying a 4k card if you play on 1080p because "bigger number = better". if that number is green it's automatically better, that's why you'll have plenty of retards buying a 5070 and then try to talk shit.

all that combined just means it would be a waste of money for AMD trying to cater to richfags.

I know this is off topic, but maybe some kiwibros can help me out.

I'm not a big gamer guy. I don't mess with GPU stuff super often. But I'm looking to upgrade my current PC graphics (Radeon 7600M XT) since I recently received a 4K display as a gift. Can anyone make any recommendations that won't cost more than my mortgage?

cheapest? amd super resolution, part of every driver.
otherwise if the image quality gets fondled too much: https://store.steampowered.com/app/993090/Lossless_Scaling/

either allows you buy a cheaper GPU too instead having to splurge on a "4k" card (if you play on 1080p it perfectly scales to 4k)

depending on the game you can also set a different internal resolution, UI will be sharp on 4k, render resolution will be 1080p or whatever.
