He did work at google. I heard he lives in japan now and just wants to keep a low profile. He doesn't do anything weird and acts quite normal to fans that recognize him. People lose interest quite quickly if you just let them do their thing and don't give them any drama. It's like lolcows here that get forgotten if they don't do anything dramaworthy for years.

A friend worked at google for a year to just make a ton of money which apparently is an option (he had a longer project he cared for, but he could go to google as a very talented coder which let him get the bag). As long as you don't piss it away on retarded california hypes (like a juicero) you probably can just fill your pockets and live off of it for a long time.

He stayed there almost exactly five years before leaving, whether he was being let go or just got tired of getting assigned to doomed bullshit like Google+. That's long enough for his stock options to have vested and he could very well be a multimillionaire at this point. I'd be surprised if he isn't.
