I'm sorry, but any argument that prioritizes opening the site ASAP when the scope of the hack was so bad that basically everything became open air is not appropriate. You know have a motivated group of people and plenty of people with an axe to grind (or just are flat out bored looking for the lulz) who now know all of the aspects of the site software, which gives them ammunition to run amok when the site is invariably brought online with insufficient hardening.

What they really should do is focus on getting it back online asap so that they don't lose their user base permanently. And then once it's back in a functional state startup a sandbox and do the long term repairs that the site needs to be more secure in the long run. Once they've got the new site tested simply switch the DNS to the sandbox and everyone wins.

I think its because Canadians have developed a sort of cultural default of shitting on us to differentiate themselves from us in their effort to impress foreigners that hate us both.

That isn't something we developed over time, its always been the case. The original stock of Canada was made up of loyalists to the British (whom rejected to revolutionary war, i.e. the formation of America). This includes: those who didn't migrated to America from Canada after the conflict, those who fled America to Canada after the conflict, and the french.
