While we're at it, did any of you also notice a sudden increase in "aggression" on 4chan during the past year? What I mean is that if you tried to effortpost on, say, a hobby board (like /g/ or /o/) there would always be 1 or 2 people who would enter the thread and act all pissed off, saying everyone's retarded and acting like you had killed their newborn child or something. Everyone always seemed irritable/on edge compared to even just a few years back.

It wasn't just typical "lol kys fag" shit, it almost felt weirdly personal. Artificial also to an extent. Forgive me if I sound schizo, I don't know how to put the feeling into words. Maybe I'm just retarded

Absolutely on /tg./ If you had a viewpoint that wasn't the most grognard shit imaginable, you would be fucking mauled by people who were acting like you were killing the hobby.
This isn't even an issue of "thin skin," you'd get dogpiled for the most lukewarm or inoffensive opinions on there since like 2022.
Bonus points youd catch timeouts and bans if you pointed out this behavior and why it wasnt getting moderated.

I mainly posted in /vg/, lurked other boards, and ironically when it came to /vg/ where the whole point is generals of games, especially co-op/multiplayer games, you'd get the occasional lot of "4chan culture" posters and "we are le anonymous" fags that shit up the threads everytime. Granted, this was also in opposition to the avatarfags, but trying to kill a sense of community because you think you know 4chan because you're a 2016 tourist just exasperated the issues.

I don't use it but judging by what I have seen basically everywhere on the public internet the rhetoric and discourse has become increasingly heated. People are openly fedposting about the president and Elon and besides that are more at each other's throats than ever before. And it didn't just happen immediately after the US election results, but started a little before that.

I can't speak to what you have seen and whether it specifically is artificial but the general tone and patience of people has definitely changed in recent history. I think some part of it is down to politics and the state of the world and maybe also a part of it is down to people being burned out by modern life and too much 24/7 news cycle impacting every part of their lives - what few normal hobbies there are have generally been taken over and commercialized like fuck and people show their cynicism everywhere.

Based on the testimony Ive read here I'd say you're on the money. Outside of having *a* place to discuss very very niche interests and hobbies, nobody has anything positive to say about the site other than it existing.
It reads a bit like praising a government program that offered nothing positive except what it was named for.
