I don't doubt it, in their private IRC channel the jannies frequently used third-party archive sites like 4plebs and nyafuu to reference deleted threads for the purpose of weeding out ban evaders, if they had a database of deleted threads it would be better to use that than the laggy, barely functional bags of shit that 4chan archive websites are. Searching the text string "archive." brings up 366 results for December 19th, 2013 alone.

I don't know if it's dead forever, but things look grim. From my understanding of the situation:

• 4chan probably doesn't have a dedicated sysadmin
• The hacker got shell access, meaning they could read/modify any data they wanted
• 4chan might not have ANY backups
• Due to the above, there is no way to restore data AND kick out the soyteen who got shell access
• The only solution might be to nuke the entire website and rebuild it from scratch (meaning complete loss of data)
• That's assuming anyone who works on 4chan has the expertise to rebuild it (which is also unlikely)

And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.

It will be recorded that the poor security measures in place & existing hostilities makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Sharty has deliberately sought to deceive our staff by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday across all boards has caused severe damage to 4chan's moderator and janitor forces. I regret to tell you that very many 4chan staff have been doxxed. In addition, some of our moderators have been reported suicidal and checked in to their local psych wards.
