The hack exploited a vulnerability in the PDF file upload feature on specific boards (/gd/, /po/, /qst/, /sci/, /tg/) by uploading malicious PostScript which was not properly checked and was processed by an outdated 2012 version of Ghostscript to generate thumbnails. This allowed execution of arbitrary code. The exploit then leveraged a misconfigured suid binary to escalate privileges to a global user, gaining unauthorized access to their extremely outdated and extremely vulnerable FreeBSD 10.1 (released November 14, 2014 and reached end of life in 2019). After gathering as much information as he could, the hacker then proceeded to re-open the /qa/ (Questions & Answers) board which was previously permanently closed in 2021.

Hearing about this was running on old as fuck shit that hadn't been maintained in nearly a decade makes me wonder if anyone has ever tried to hack furaffinity this way. Apparently Dragoneer never explained to any other one person how everything on his clearly nigger-rigged site worked and it was simple enough for a child to brute force into his registrar.

It's a well known fact that Dragoneer also covered for known child abusers on the site and asked them to delete CSAM sent to them by underaged users. Who knows if the current leadership is even bothering to do this. If this ever gets hacked it will be be an endless minecraft milk fountain.

I think the jannies and mods come and go and they were never what made the website, i dont give a fuck about them but if we lose the website it's a shame, lots of blue boards like sp and a and tv still had lots of good activity and housed a huge amount of internet niches. Also the mentality of a anonymous internet and the whole caos being lost feels weird.
