The FBI has the tools to sit outside the local elementary school and write tickets for people who speed in the school zone. But if you send them to do that then you divert resources from things like tracking interstate serial killers. If your local police chief decides, "Fuck it, I'm gonna let people speed in the school zones!" that doesn't mean the FBI is now at fault for the consequences.

The FBI is a terrible example considering they need private journalists to do their work exposing signal chats for them, indicating either incompetence or complicity and in either case fault, but I will not use that to avoid your broader point.

I doubt the Karens and Kevins will face any legal issues in the long run or end up with criminal records due to deferred sentencing. The nonviolent riot charges will be dropped or deferred in plea agreements with a small fine and unsupervised probation for maybe 6 months. The less violent charges, like pushing an ICE officer, will also be plead down to almost nothing and deferred.
Unfortunately it will energize the Democrat base. Midterm elections are won by turnout. Dems will get more donations and more volunteers than they would've without Saint Shot-In-The-Face.
Kindness is also not a virtue, it is a weakness. If you are Kind, you will be taken advantage of. Compassion is the virtue they are looking for and its not remotely the same thing. You can have compassion for someone, but also understand why they need to swing from a gallows. Yeah, they probably had a hard life and are little bit crazy, but they still need to swing. You can make sure the knots are done right so its quick and they dont suffer. That is compassion. Not kindness.
Kindness only works if the entire society and culture follows the same internalized ruleset, which includes that kindness is seen as positive by everyone.
