Yes. The 'Troubles' lasted two generations with countless dead and NI is an incredibly politically unstable shithole, that's not something that is easily forgotten. Both sides have decades of experience killing each other, themselves, and authorities. The British government effectively allowed prods to be wild and feral to counter IRA insurgencies, creating a paramilitary culture that exists today. 'Community leaders' on both sides have experience fighting and have lost friends and family to the other and they give out marching orders to entire communities.
