Israel annexed the Golan in the 80's, so the cope about Golan being the buffer is just that, cope. Mount Hermon in particular is big because it will allow Israel to set up a radar installation at one of the highest points in the Middle East. Given the fact that just a few weeks ago Iran had blasted Israel with Intermediate range ballistic missiles, the reason why Israel wants Mount Hermon in particular is obvious. Sure, the Ski Slopes would be nice, but what is really nice is its position as a lynchpin Air Defense position that looms over the entire Levant.

I don't see Syria ever getting that back. Its just too important. The rest of the buffer though, that is a negotiating position. That could be returned of Jolani is willing to play ball.
