2024 Syrian opposition offensives - The first Syrian rebel offensive against Government forces since March 2020

After the genocide in Gaza I'm sure Hezbollah's feelings were hurt. So this was the consequences of Syria's cooperation with Iran and Hezbollah.
Hezbollah is widely despised by Arabs. Their intervention in the Syrian Civil War is seen as them being the dogs of foreign imperialists and it's a fair assessment. They are famously accused of having killed more Syrians than Israelis.
Even now, they hurriedly signed a truce with Israel and then rushed to Syria to get back to their real work of killing Muslims.
Fortunately it didn't work out that way.

As far as the Iran business that went on for these past couple pages goes, I know it's probably been forgotten in all the excitement since, but an Iranian brigadier-general was killed while trying to rally pro-Assad forces in the early stages of the Battle of Aleppo. (Most likely this was a decapitation strike by the rebels, contributing to the eventual rout of the SAA & allies from that city two days later.) I've said it before but Iran definitely invested bigly in Syria (to the tune of $50 bil, and many military assets up to & including that General Pourhashemi) and Assad didn't, arguably couldn't, give up until after the SAA lost the Battle of Hama after Aleppo; he would probably have faced an actual Iranian-organized coup if he betrayed them like so.

I have sperged enough about Lebanon in this thread already and don't really care to repeat points I made dozens of pages ago, suffice to say Hezbollah are not 'liberators' or a patriotic Lebanese organization, they are an Iranian proxy who have established a state within the Lebanese state and routinely fuck with Lebanese politics (most certainly those of other sects, like the Christians who they've collected some puppets from, with said puppets being opposed by the hardliner patriots like Kataeb in an internal schism) to represent Iranian interests. That country would have been better off if Gemayel hadn't been whacked by the cunts of the SSNP on Hafez al-Assad's orders in 1982 and proceeded to finish reuniting it under the Christian banner, which would also have preserved Lebanon as a Christian country and almost certainly avoided the ruinous shitshow that was the 2023-24 war with Israel (which Hez lost catastrophically anyway).

Now, on to some actual news: yesterday I posted a video of HTS stepping on Hafez al-Assad's sarcophagus. Well today they've fully desecrated his mausoleum and burned it out, including said sarcophagus.

Someone found more photos of the deed and put them in an Imgur album:

assadsr.png assadsr2.png assadsr3.png

Mohammad al-Bashir, prime minister of the HTS-backed Syrian transitional government, asserts that he only needs until March 1 of next year to fully set up a new permanent & functioning government. You may notice that there's a shahada flag (similar to that of the Taliban) next to the Syrian green flag in the background; I say they should also put a rainbow flag on its other side, not to represent the alphabet soup but the sheer :optimistic: of such a statement.

Also, AJ once again explains that he has no interest in or even ability to fight Israel atm, and that he considers Hezbollah/Iran to be the biggest threats to the new Syria.

The big question is who is accusing them of killing more Syrians than Israelis? Is it NATO/Israel?
If Israel wants to push Lebanon's shit in I don't care. I'm beyond sick of America being the world police.

The only complaint I have is saying Assad was a bad guy. In reality he was a nerd who loved his wife and was put in the situation to rule a country.

@Chuckwagon
kinda lame to attack a corpse.
This supports the assertion that he is a Mossad asset, put there to end supply lines to Hezbollah.

You almost sound like you're supporting this POS.
"If you don't reject reality and subscribe to my inaccurate worldview then you are a stinky retard!'
He sounds like a typical Sunni retard.
This is the problem with you retards. Keep turning your brain off and refusing to consider the actual circumstances on the ground.
Da JOOZ!
You really want to cape up for this ex AQ sand nigger?
I'm aware that you won't actually consider viewpoints that aren't your own, but I will provide my real response here:

I do not like HTS, I do not support HTS, I do not support Julani. I currently, as I always have, support the SDF, previously referred to as "the Kurds." The SDF is made up of Kurds, Assyrians, Yazidis, and Arab Democrats. This is the coalition I would prefer being in charge. That being said, just because I don't like HTS and prefer the SDF, doesn't mean that I'm ignorant of the realities of HTS. HTS is not AQ, it is not ISIS. Julani was a member of and came up through AQ, but in 2015 made clear his beliefs and the new direction for Al-Nusra, which was to work with the Gulf States and make diplomatic inroads with the West in order to fight against Iran. He has been consistent in this message and his actions in line with this objective since 2015. Now, it's not secret that the United States would PREFER someone else, but Julani is smart, and has managed to consolidate enough power where he knows that, unless the US wants to get into another regime change quagmire, the US is forced to work with him. He also knows that, while the US may not prefer him, if he plays ball well enough, the US will pragmatically ally themselves with him because his regional objectives are similar to the US goal of the containment of Iranian influence.

Im not a retard that is incapable of recognizing a deal when I see one, and I was taught to not look a gift horse in the mouth. Is it unpalatable that we have to work with this piece of shit? Obviously. Do I want to spend US blood and treasure to regime change another middle eastern shit hole when the new boss might actually align with our regional goals and not be a genocidal maniac? No.
Seems like it hurts Lebanon the most, then Iran, then Russia last.
No Russia is a massive loser in this. Tartus and Latakia were lynchpins in Russian adventurism in Africa. Tartus was the last Mediterranean port the Russians had access to. Iran is an even bigger loser than Russia. The Iran-Iraq-Syria-Lebanon corridor to supply Hamas is now cut, Hezbollah is significantly reduced, and Iranian backed militias in Syria and Iraq are being ground down. This is an absolute catastrophe for both Russia and Iran.
Russia saw it a mile away and just left
Because there's nothing left in the tank. If Russia could've continued propping up Assad they absolutely would have.

Why does everyone keep saying this is a big win for Israel?
Because it is?
Assad was both ineffective and hated, and he needed propping up by both Russia and Iran, just to survive. Now they've got Turkey-backed """former""" ISIS as neighbors instead. Sure, maybe al-Golani himself is not ISIS, but what about his horde of headchoppers? They are already posting shit about moving on to Jerusalem. Also what does a man who comes from the Golan and used al-Golani as his nom de guerre really think about Israel occupying to Golan heights?
Turkey is famously one of the few states in the middle east to have recognized Israel from basically the beginning, and always had a decent relationship with them. Sure, Erdogan made overtures to the Arabs through his "Ottomanism" foreign policy, but that was confined to giving aid to Libya when it was basically in anarchy, getting on good terms with the Barzanis so they stop supporting the PKK, and invading northern Syria to prevent Rojava from getting any ideas about supporting the PKK. He doesn't actually like Arabs, no Turkish politician does. Erdogan is basically a non-threat to Israel, and he promotes probably the closest thing they have to a form of Islamism that isn't an existential threat to their country.
The Kurds are supposed to be an ally in this shit cauldron, and now they are getting raped by Turkey and the rebels. Deir ez-Zor was retaken in what, 3 days? Kobani looks like it's next. Once the rebels are done there, where are they gonna turn next?
Gee it's like Turkey is a NATO ally with a modern military or something, and Rojava was getting table scraps from the US in exchange for fighting ISIS. That's also the whole reason they've annexed as much land as they did, which is full of non-Kurds who don't especially like them. They know they can't fight Turkey, which is why they're avoiding direct combat with them. Erdogan is ITCHING for an excuse to get rid of them entirely. Their best hope is to wait out, hold onto one side of the Euphrates, and wait for terms from the interim government.
Sure, there's no more land corridor for Iran to supply Hezbollah, but those guys are pretty fucking dead already.
They were dying, and now they're going to be deader than dead. Without Syria they won't have a chance to recover from this. Israel isn't aiming for a bloody nose, they're aiming to fucking exterminate Hezbollah forever, and frankly this was a good development for that. HTS are Sunni Fundamentalists who are intrinsically opposed to a Shi'ite group like Hezbollah, which has the support of a much more dangerous power- Iran. After this, they'll set their sights on accelerating the inevitable collapse of that regime, too. To be honest, though, Iran's regime is going to flounder anyway because half the population aren't even Muslim at this point, so they might just sit back and watch.
Looks like Russia is gonna keep their port, and all that without having to deal with a fucking retard in Assad.
Israel doesn't give a shit about post-Soviet Russia or their crumbling navy.
Is a mountain next to Damascus, no matter how strategic, worth all this shit?
It's insurance against the Sunni fundamentalist regime they just helped the Turks prop up. The 24/7 bombing campaigns Israel was doing on southern Syria finally paid off, and you don't think they had a plan to grab even more clay for their trouble? Buffer zone for the buffer zone, baby. Now they can lob bombs at government centers if HTS even dips their toes into Palestinian causes without even scrambling a jet.

This supports the assertion that he is a Mossad asset, put there to end supply lines to Hezbollah.
This "every jihadi is a sekreit jew" LARP shit would be so much more interesting if there was single shred of ebidance that wasn't revealed in a krokodil enhanced dream. The biggest winner here is Turkey. I am unable to describe just how massive of a win this is for the Turkroach especially since the new powers that be in Syria have turned on SDF. Just completely roach domination.

The next big winner is Israel.
So here's what Israel is getting out of this.

For DECADES Syria has been a constant thorn in Israel's side. The last Israeli aircraft loss was due to Syrian SAMs. There were a threat Israel couldn't do anything about because - even if we ignore all the other issues of one country invading another - Turkey wouldn't stand for it, and Iraq wouldn't either. Assad was also not the worst neighbor, in that his highly paranoid and rabid security apparatus kept any "third parties" from appearing.

Syria was allied with Iran, funder & armorer of most of Israel's least favorite Arab social clubs. Assad was also a Baathist and had to give at minimum lip-service to pan-Arab nationalism. But Iran used Syria as a safe staging ground for command and control of the terrorist groups they controlled, primarily Hamas & Hezbollah. Becasue Iran would send guys to Syria on official diplomatic missions to secretly meet with Palestinians, Israel was limited in being able to hit the Iranians.

Syria used to own some mountains, the Golan, that possession gave them ability to rain artillery down on Israel. Israel took highest part the Golan Heights in the 1967 6-days war and defended them fiercely in 1971 Yom Kippur war. But while there is a UN-watched buffer zone between the two countries' forces, Syria has mountainous territory that could be used to attack an area that is vital for Israel's security.

There's some shit to add about the USSR and the Mideast security situation in the 70s and 80s but I'll skip because the details aren't important anymore, but what this all adds up to was Assad had small state he governed with an iron first, and said small state had strategic weapons well outside of its size or global importance.
This was tolerated by Israel because anyone who replaced him was certain to be worse. Better the Lawful Evil devil yo know, etc.

Anyway, that's the background.

So here is how Israel comes out as the #2 winner.

First, They have taken even more terrority in the Golan. Not just one mountain (though that got some headlines) They have taken a bunch of other key security areas in the Golan. This means Israel's hold on the Golan is more secure.
Some of these areas also control mountain backroads into/out of Lebanon. These were used heavily by Iran to supply Hamas/Hezbollah, and now they are gone or reduced.

Second, the new guys are Sunni and HATE Iran. They view Iran as directly responsible for Assad being in power. Iran isn't going to be able to Syria as a staging or meeting ground anymore. They can't just meet with their pet terrorists with official cover anymore. This is going be massive, especially with Hezbollah's comms being rat fucked to ridiculous levels due to how deep Israel was inside their org.
Now, there is some question as if the new Syrian leaders will run as tight of a ship as Assad did (spoiler: unlikely) so Iran will likely still be able to use Syrian territory, but its going to be much, much harder with much greater consequences if they are caught.

Third, they have removed nearly all of Syria's stategic weapons. They couldn't do this before because paranoid Assad would have chimped out if they were hit and might have done something very rash. But with him leaving the country there was no more hand near the button. This means even if Allie Joe decides "Actually I was kidding, Assad was right about the Jews, Fuck the Jews for ever" and nothing else actually changes, there no more ballistic missiles (which might or might not be armed with chemical warheads) that will come raining down into Israel, and no Mach 2.5 capable fighterbombers that could maybe suicide run Jerusalem.

Fourth, the new powers that be at Turkroach puppets, but they have said they want to be a Islamic global player. They don't want to be a pariah, they want international aid, world bank loans, the whole thing. This means that Israel has a neighbor they can just control via money. Let the Turks worry about actual security, Israel can buy businessmen and politicians.

I think the biggest factor there is Israel beating the absolute shit out of Hezbollah in the last year. There is never going to be the same level of preparedness and organization, Iran arms shipments or not. The weirdos in Israel do want southern Lebanon to get back the Kingdom of David borders, but if Israel really set their mind on it, Hezbollah was always gonna be just an inconvenience post-2024.
Also don't forget Soleimani getting ice'd on his way to the airport in 2020. That put Iran off balance and up the chain of events that lead to Hezbollah getting all their dicks blown off by explosive pagers.

The big question is who is accusing them of killing more Syrians than Israelis? Is it NATO/Israel?
The Syrians, the Lebanese, basically any Arab, most of which hate Israel also.

A ship owned by a company that supplied the Russian military in Syria has set sail from the Kaliningrad enclave.

GehR15uXoAAVg9A.jpg
Cargo "in ballast" means the ship is empty or partially empty and stabilized itself with ballast. The claimed destination is Port Said, speculations that it is headed for Syria to pick up Russian equipment. The ETA for Egypt is December 29th.

That's because American interests keep getting involved and the liberals in the United States keep crying every time they see a brown person with a scrape. Western liberals and retards who hate Western values despise Israel because Israel is a western power. these fuckers cannot understand that the only reason Israel is successful is because they aren't retarded. we're forced to be the world's police because every time we don't do something, the rest of the world doesn't care. Joe Biden has a great speech about this back when he was senator where he was talking about the Bosnian genocide and he basically says when has there ever been a moral center in Europe and he's correct. that's also why the Israelis act the way they do because they don't trust anybody especially after the Holocaust. they say if you're not going to take out the trash, we'll take it out ourselves and they mean it. hell we're watching this occur right now after October 7th.

between you and me, how else would you deal with the country full of fanatics? there's a reason why even though Israel and Syria were at war with each other they still had back channel communications and the United States still had an embassy there. Assad was incredibly corrupt but he wasn't Saddam. I put him up there as corrupt as the Shah was. But again, these are Arabs we're talking about, they live and die by the sword. they will shoot you over nonsense. and will kill you because you drank from the wrong well.

I think instead of going after Israel be more productive if the the Christians united like the Jews did but focused on freeing Lebanon. Lebanon was always the better country, Israel was just this weird back colony that didn't do anything. Lebanon had casinos, beautiful women skiing and fun. Israel had black and white TV farming , communist Jews, and religious rocks. while I am not Christian, I would 100% support a Christian armed group taking back Lebanon.

@Maori Kiwifruit Growers Thanks for the detailed response (especially about mount Hermon) , couple minor points.

What you describe re Assad and Iran is closer to pre-Oct 7 to me. Hezbo especially was considered to be a major threat, having stood up to the Israelis in the last major conflict. On let's say Nov 1 2024, Assad's willingness to assist Iran with supplying its proxies mattered a lot less, with both Hamas and Hezbollah being reduced to irrelevance, at least for the time being. If Iran was stubborn enough to keep trying to rez Hezbo and Hamas, maybe it would have even worked in Israel's favor, as it would be a waste of resources.

While I don't disagree that Israel's decisions to annex and relinquish land are usually guided by pragmatism, I don't think that's the case for the current government, which leans a lot more religious right than the previous ones. ben-Gvir would love to resettle parts of the Gaza strip, which imho, is a horrible idea,.

Yeah I'm not talking about Greater Israel that stretches as far as Kuwait, that's some Elders of Zion shit, but I'm pretty sure that occupying the biblical Kingdom of Israel would be a pretty popular idea in 2024, unlike under let's say Sharon.

I do agree that it would braindead to attack Israel after mopping up the Kurds (or at least taking Raqqa and Kobani), but the rebels defeating the Kurds is already a big loss for the US/Israel.

@Chuckwagon
kinda lame to attack a corpse.

Yes well, I too believe that grave desecration is an assholish thing to do in general. It's also actually supposed to be verboten under Islamic law. However, this kind of thing is inevitable when the guy in question was a hated dictator and the dictatorship he handed off to his son was just overthrown. Assad Sr. killed up to 40,000 Syrians while stomping out the Muslim Brotherhood in Hama 1982 and was just generally an even less cuddly (and far more diabolically intelligent) version of his son, it's no wonder HTS and company would seek to get revenge on him however they could even though he's been dead since 2000.

Realistically it doesn't matter whether AJ is a Mossad agent (although it'd be hilarious if he were, this would make the Syrian Civil War a slightly bigger W for Israel than it is for Turkey and not the other way around, which is how it looks now). Any new Syrian government which isn't 100% aligned with Iran would find it's in their best interest to cut Hezbollah's lifeline, as Hez & Iran in turn must necessarily be the enemy of any Syrian government which isn't outright part of their Axis of Resistance - otherwise Iran can't reliably resupply Hezbollah. And being an Axis member in turn necessarily means being the enemy of Israel, Public Enemy #1 to said Axis. In short they're stuck between a rock & a hard place here, and it's not easy to fault them for choosing to try to bow to Israel rather than Iran after the post-October 7 wars have turned into a massive clusterfuck for the Axis nations (also Israel has just shown that it can hurt Syria far more than Iran if AJ does opt to fuck back with them).

The Kurds are supposed to be an ally in this shit cauldron,
Ehhhhh, kinda. Like I've said before, "The Kurds" are not a monolithic entity. The United States has a well established and very good working relationship with Iraqi Kurdistan and the Peshmerga. The YPG are cowboys, which makes them unreliable. US support for the YPG didn't really start until the FSA collapsed and ISIS started its land grab, at which point the YPG became a pragmatic ally as a counterbalance to ISIS. The YPG also took in ethnic and religious minorities to protect them, which further aligned with the US policy in the region. After ISIS was crushed, aid more or less dried up. The YPG absolutely is aligned with and supplies the PKK, which Iraqi Kurdistan hates. There's significant friction between Iraqi and Syrian Kurds and the US far prefers the Iraqis, and also doesn't want to get into a proxy fight with a NATO member that controls the entrance to the Black Sea when such control is vital for the ongoing war in Ukraine.

I don't really understand what you're asking? but it's real fears of return to pre-october 7th. they want a fundamental change in how the region operates. prior to October 7th they were promised from the west from the United States that they would keep everyone happy and safe, and that fell apart. Obama fucked it in the ass and destroyed it and Biden people were too stupid to pay attention, or outright did not care about Israel. so Israel has decided to ensure its own security. as per Hezbollah they don't really operate out of pragmatism, although some might argue they do, however, the way I see it, they're ideologically motivated. the pragmatism comes in when they decide when to stop killing temporarily. they every time they have a ceasefire or a peace agreement they immediately start rearming themselves. what we're dealing with is a a religious death cult. in some regards, very similar to ISIS. except isis wasn't willing to wear suits and pretend to be anything that it wasn't Hezbollah is.

While I don't disagree that Israel's decisions to annex and relinquish land are usually guided by pragmatism, I don't think that's the case for the current government, which leans a lot more religious right than the previous ones. ben-Gvir would love to resettle parts of the Gaza strip, which imho, is a horrible idea,.

netanyahu is facing a mountain of corruption charges and he has been moving right every election in order to stay in power. it's similar to Trump and the whole qanon bullshit. does Trump actually believe in many of these Republican tenants? probably not (I'm not going to argue about which ones but he probably doesn't give a shit about a lot of them), does it get him reelected? absafuckinglutely it does. both parties do it, all politicians do it. problem is you end up with guys like Ben-gvirgetting power, who actually believe what they say. by the way Ben-gvirs, family comes from Iraq and were expelled following the formation of Israel because they were Jews not because they were zionists. so he of all people knows what it is like to be under the Arab boot. the European Jews which found it Israel only knew from the Nazi and the Russian boot.

Yeah I'm not talking about Greater Israel that stretches as far as Kuwait, that's some Elders of Zion shit, but I'm pretty sure that occupying the biblical Kingdom of Israel would be a pretty popular idea in 2024, unlike under let's say Sharon.

oh it's very popular now. especially after October 7th. October 7th proved that you can't trust the fucking Palestinians, I'm sure many many Jews are regretting not ethnically cleansing the Palestinians from Israel following 1948. but they're here and we have to deal with them so better keep the ones that are citizens happy and keep the ones that aren't citizens out.
I do agree that it would braindead to attack Israel after mopping up the Kurds (or at least taking Raqqa and Kobani), but the rebels defeating the Kurds is already a big loss for the US/Israel.
That's why I don't think the Israelis or the United States will allow the currents to fall. especially not the Israelis. if I was Al-jolani, I'd create some sort of unified governments with Kurds having some sort of semi-autonomous region or something similar to what Scotland is to the United Kingdom. But again, these aren't pragmatic people, they're head choppers. they killed all the pragmatic people, because the pragmatic people tried to be pragmatic with a bunch of fucking head choppers.

Everybody may know something but that doesn't make it true, by the objective standard of "I believe it" we'd also have fairies and the like.
Snowden has every reason to make shit up because he's Russian citizen, any credibility he might have had as in any way non partisan is long gone, it's his actual job now.
Material supplies mean surprisingly little if it's not actually linked by cause to some greater picture, jumping from jacket to Mossad conspiracy based on "everybody knows it" is schizo nonsense please use your brain.
