Muslims from rich, powerful & corrupt dynasties don't tend to give a fuck about religious prohibitions on booze or anything else, any more than rich & powerful nominal Catholics like the Bidens care about the Church's teachings on the sanctity of life (ie. no abortion/birth control). The Saudi royals for example are notorious for boozing it up, among other things, at their lavish parties - the laws enforced by their religious police, as with all laws in KSA, are for the little people. For the Assads that must have gone double; as relatively secular dictators, they wouldn't even have had to pretend to be mega-pious adherents to the Islamic alcohol taboo in public as the Saudis do. And IIRC the Alawite sect they belonged to is cool with alcohol anyway, unlike the Sunni majority they ruled.

That's just it though, Assad was always the secular moderate the West always claimed to want as the model Middle Eastern ruler, he just refused to bend the knee and allow his country to be looted in order to join their club. It's always been a joke to label him the same as Saddam or Quadaffi.

Well of course the Saudis' enemies would say that about them. More seriously & realistically though, if you think about it probably everyone in the Arab world has at least one Jewish ancestor somewhere. Men from the non-Jewish tribes in Arabia almost certainly would've taken wives from the Jewish tribes as part of the usual political wheeling & dealing in the centuries before Muhammad's rise, and afterwards he made a point of killing the men of the Banu Qurayza but enslaving the women & children and distributing said slaves among his followers (including taking one, Rayhana, for himself, though they had no children just like his other Jewish wife Safiyya). It would be difficult if not impossible to find an Arab family anywhere (Saudi or otherwise) that can claim their family tree is truly judenfrei, and then have that claim stand up to scrutiny.

Anyway, more news from the northeast: FSA/HTS-aligned Arabs have now officially, definitively cucked the Kurds out of Deir ez-Zor. Could probably use more celebratory shooting in the air though (nevermind that AJ banned it earlier), I don't think anyone heard them the first time.

It is incredible how the papershell of ukrainian goverment still considers recruiting everyone but the leaders.
There's almost noone left.

I thought the EU wasn't taking anymore of them, and will likely be sending many back. Obviously Israel will double cross anyone they want. However I don't blame them for destroying the military equipment.

Priest from Homs reports attacks by sunnis against Christian villages. Sunni militants entered into a Christian farm and beat the owners. They accused the Christians of being infidels, dogs, and said that it is their land now.

The Arab Socialist Ba'ath party and the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, the clue is in the names as to what they represent politically, very much the same in doctrine practice and now fate.
For comparison you need only see how Jordan/Morocco/Oman/other Cold War winners who didn't go all in on the losing side are doing, Arab Muslims are perfectly capable of building nations not consumed by perpetual fitna afterall but when they're winched to the lead balloon of support that is the undependable east they're a bit screwed yeah.

The Saudi Religious police got curbstomped by the current ruler as soon as the previous king died and threw all the wahabis in prison, the only countries left with shariah police is iran and afghanistan
