2016 US Presidential Election Thread 2 - Always Darkest before Don

I can back him up on this. The Clinton campaign is a fucking behemoth. Canvassed for the Democrats yesterday, we have reems of paper with basic data and GOTV does two things with it.
  1. Pushes possible voters who have registered Democrat to actually plan out their day to vote on election day
  2. Allows us to fine tune our data. Some people are indifferent to Clinton, and we try to make them more enthusiastic to vote for her. A good number, (about half of the ones I spoke to) are very eager to vote for her and a small handful are were negative or hostile to her. Canvassing allows us to ensure that the people we have in the first two camps remember to vote. A dew voters had died or moved, some were unwilling to talk at all about the election, and two of them were inaccesable (one had chained their front gate, another had bitpulls roaming the yard). They came from all age groups and genders too.
We then take all this data and bring it back to them. Its a well oiled machine, and the few blocks I covered told me more about it than eyeballing the signs.

Its a very good model that I think got pioneered by Obama and has been adopted by Cruz for a possible 2020 run.

Trump has projected so hard about pay to play that the Great America PAC has been caught admitting they'd fucking do it themselves.
Fuck you up the ass.

So Breitbart was coordinating with the DNC so disrupt ROP rallies in order to make the DNC look bad?
Breitbart hired a guy in that video to protest Rubio rallies to make Rubio look bad. Though it's also been revealed that the Trump Foundation illegally paid O'Keefe to go after the DNC (one can assume). Given O'Keefe's history of lying about shit and the fact that this activist clearly doesn't have any qualms about who he works with, it's actually a pretty fair assumption that O'Keefe's video is a load of bullshit and this guy was paid to help make it look like the DNC was planning those protests, when in reality it was a combination of this activist and people on the right.

Or something fuck I don't know this shit is just getting downright surreal man. Like, I can't even begin to piece together what the fuck is going on anymore. Or maybe I never could? Maybe I'm imagining all this?

Said it before and I'll say it again. The white working class is dying in this country and is effectively the forgotten minority of the future. It doesn't help that Dems and the GOP alike are rubbing it in their faces with SJW crap saying "How does it feel??" Who's the only one who didn't do that? Trump.

The thing of it is, besides automation and foreign competition, a lot of the blame rests on the white working class themselves.

Once this country had strong unions, strong worker's rights, and a decent safety net. But the working class fell for the two big GOP lies:

-You'd be rich if it weren't for all those regulations and taxes.

-Lazy good-for-nothing criminal (insert minority) are living off of your taxes and taking over the country.

So the working class voted in people who dismantled the unions and safety net, and scaled back worker's rights. Profits soared even as wages stagnated. And still the working class believed the lies.

"Just a few more regulations gone and you'll be rich!"

"Those (minority) are going to take over!"

If the working class ever wants things to get better than they have to stop voting against their own economic interest. Otherwise the Republicans will just use them for as long as possible, squeeze every last cent and vote from them, then throw them aside like so much trash.

Welp. I can't even imagine how a MAGA supporter would defend this. "Make America great again! By dismantling it's most fundamental law!"

If you had the quote by itself you could convince me a SJW said it.

So, even when you're working hard on the campaign trail- can you ever be too busy for good barbecue? Getting some grub on the go at Stamey's in Greensboro, NC. Sweet place, great people.
Oh shit, son. Stamey's is awesome. I'm voting Pence instead of Iggy Pop now.

If you ever need anyone doxed and murdered, just reach out man.

That's not the whole story, that myth was debunked ages ago.

You said something along the lines of Trump needing to convince non-whites that this movement wasn't just for whites. He failed miserably. As he should.
He has attempted to turn the GOP into a nationalist workers' party, yet he neglected a good chunk of our population. And for their sake, it will be better if he fails. If you care deeply for the working class, you don't field someone peddling supply-side economic bullshit with a history of union busting and bragging not paying craftsmen. If we want to save the working class, no matter the color or nationality, we need to invest in education for adults. An associate's degree could be a good start for people. We should encourage apprenticeships and trade schools, not crippling consumers and companies with protectionist tariffs that will be passed on to the very workers it was meant to help. We need to spend more on bridges, roads and railways, go after banks that can easily take advantage of unbanked people, and stop cutting things like school lunch programs in order to continue cutting taxes for people like Trump, who keep promising a wave of wealth if we just give a little more back in taxes, or a become a little more lax with regulations. That wealth has been thirty years overdue, and trillions in new tax cuts, including ending the estate tax that affects the biggest earners won't save this "forgotten minority"

So, if anyone wants an example of why Trump is doing so poorly (and likely to do even worse than his polling indicates):
Campaigns are a lot of things, but most of what they are is work. Hard, brutal, slogging work. You fundraise, you reach out to people one at a time, you walk and knock, you call, you do everything you can to get your voters to the polls. That includes giving them rides. I have literally spent hours driving around on election day to pick up old people who don't drive and drive them to the polls. These are people we spent weeks identifying as voters. I cannot and do not ask them who to vote for, but once we've already identified someone as a supporter and targeted them, we can just run a shuttle service for them. This is Get Out the Vote. People who have never run a campaign before see Clinton doing this and assume she is cheating, because they are very stupid. Compared to Trump, she is cheating, because he is not doing any of this.

The example:

Campaign work is far, far too much for paid staff to do. You need thousands of volunteers. Getting people to volunteer is like pulling teeth. You need to stay on them every week, constantly follow up, and make it as plug-and-play for them as possible.

I want to volunteer for Clinton. I have an opportunity to sign up as a volunteer at every Clinton event, no matter how small or local, and on her website. If I sign up I get a call within 48 hours where a real live person tells me the closest event to me, when it is, what it will entail, and makes a sales pitch to get me to show up. They will very earnestly try not to let me go without signing up for something.

I want to volunteer for Trump. I sign up on his web site. Most local Trump events don't have volunteer signups. At some point a week or more later I get a call. If I tell them I want to volunteer, they instruct me to hang up and dial a different number. If I do, that line is an automated menu.

This is real. This is really how they are doing it.

This is campaign malpractice. If I did this on a campaign I was running, even at the state rep level where your district has like 50,000 voters, I would be fired. If I was running a campaign and someone on my GOTV team suggested this I would transfer them off the project.

How are they so bad at this?!

This really helps understanding why the republican early vote has collapsed this year.
