Foolishly Googled this in the presence of a friend, good thing he was keeping his eyes on the road. It looks fairly modern and is a waste of the artist's talent, I usually associate really old anime art with shittier designs, like the crappy images you posted.I don't really see so many people talking about anime's that were released before the masses got aroused by Cream Lemon
Cream Lemon was an anthology, so a lot of now-famous animators were involved with it. The '80s was influential for a reason. It looks fairly modern
Oh, I thought it was 70's since it was mentioned in the opening post. I'm a little less impressed by its art then, the 80's was packed full of great art, it would've really stood out in the 70's.Cream Lemon was an anthology, so a lot of now-famous animators were involved with it. Hey, Astro Boy is great (especially the manga) and 70s anime is super fun. The Dynamic Pro stuff is always really cool -- it's so suspenseful it's like watching a series of kaiju mini-movies rather than TV shows -- and Raideen, though more Ultraman-like, has lots of variety (it's always neat seeing which trump cards the villains have and how Raideen overcomes it in the end). Mechander Robo has some really cool designs and launches (they store the robot in a baseball stadium, the rest of the world is a wasteland, the villains have these cool little yellow jets, and they introduce a supercar at one point). Lots of the stuff later on can get quite story-driven like Daikengo (Hamlet in space), Gordian (sort of like Ideon), and the Tadao Nagahama stuff (though I haven't seen it yet). The space stuff is also really nice -- Yamato is amazing, 1978 Harlock has the best ships (blue Arcadia my beloved), and Starzinger, Blue Noah, and Dangard Ace are pretty cool. 1980-1985 anime is best variety-wise because it's got stuff that wouldn't be out of place in the 70s (Trider G7 and Shin Tetsujin), more realistic and ambitious stuff (Ideon, Xabungle, Macross, Dunbine, Votoms), and really weird stuff that will never be replicated again (the J9 trilogy, Laserion, and Galvion). Not to say there's nothing from the 70's that was good, but most the older anime I watch is from the 80's because the further you go back the shittier it gets, until you hit Astro Boy's retarded looking ass.
