Metal Gear Solid 2 is a steaming pile of piss

I know you got a hate boner for Kojima, but if you study his actions over the years, or let's say put yourself in his shoes, you would do the same thing or even more drastic.

Kojima should have gotten fired and replaced after showing the script for MGS 2. By 4 it was so abundantly clear that fans would buy anything with his name on it that why shouldn't he try to hollywood up the cast and go even crazier?
Death stranding starring norman reedus by norman reedus for norman reedus & kojima tells any sane person all he needs to know about what happens when you give a gibbering lunatic unlimited cash.

Metal Gear Solid as a series becomes much more tolerable if you treat it as a case study into the mind of a Japanese man obsessed with Hollywood movies and stop trying to take it seriously. I'm sure such people exist but even the hardcore fans I know aren't worshipping Kojima but treating him almost like a minor lolcow. Except with a really talented team working under him making sure the gameplay is solid.

Fatman was the test before the actual S3 went into effect so why would the Helipad be trying to emulate Shaodw Moses at that point?
I would not be surprised if the "S3" plan was tacked-on at the end of development; like Square Enix did with the Shinra character. They had to do something to acknowledge that 10 keeps circling back to 7 in terms of archetypes.

I wouldn't blame even blame Konami and Kojima for MGS2. Blame the Taliban. a lot of MGS2 was cut because of 9/11

You are exactly the type of fan that Kojima criticized about in MGS2.

Arsenal was supposed to crash into the Statue of Liberty, along with most of lower Manhattan. Ironically, the WTC is untouched. Wild.

Because Solidus want the nuclear bomb to detonate at New York Stock Exchange, which depends on who you talk to, it is either where the Patroits AI computers are hidden, or because the symbolic gesture that the bankers controlled USA.

Welp, at least Kojima is right about one thing...

Yeah, Arsenal crashing into New York and an after credits news report were cut I believe. I don't know if much more than that got cut though, the game came out only like 2 months after 9/11

IIRC he originally wanted MGS2 to involve a revived Liquid taking over a compound in Iraq or somewhere in the middle east. It's been so long though that maybe I'm mixing things up but I think that was a big reason middle east eventually got featured in MGS4.

Snake was originally going to fight Liquid at the same time Raiden is battling Solidus, as a crowd of rooting spectators and mounted police look on.

Yeah but that wasn't cut because of 9/11 right? That was just cut because it would have been too good or something. Or was this part of the original original MGS2? It's so hard remembering stuff from Document and stuff that had to be translated.

Actually, didn't they cut out the American flag falling on Solidus cause of 9/11? Raiden literally still cuts it in the cutscene even though it's not there.

I think the other side strut (as playable Snake) which is semi restored to Snake Tales. Most of the cut stuff is alot of ideas Kojima had implemented to succeeding games.

If that was the intent, it fell short: it's all contained to Shell 1. More of an Arrange Mode than an actual B-side. I know the VR Missions held my interest a lot better than Snake Tales.

The concept of External Gazer is great, though: The misdeeds of Rose & Raiden have earned "the combined hate of the entire universe"; the couple's mere presence "has the ability to destroy a world." :story:

Note, Japanese game dev companies are very notorious for basically super penny pinchers, specially with dev tools. in fact RE1 was developed using a mess of a source code from SNES Goof Troop.

One of the main focus of Fox Engine is the smooth animation/transition, multiple animations. That's why MGSV has one of the smoothest climb animations in a game. Most, if not all games are programmed that the character snap into a place before doing the animation, while snake can climb from different approach vectors.

So, anyway, the reality is, developing a game engine is hard, and takes a long time and EXPENSIVE. The fact they made Fox Engine in 3 years is a very great feat (Note, Unreal Engine 4 started development in 2005 and released in 2012).
The source for the Goof Troop claim is a retarded Kotaku article about FF7 that mentions it offhand. There's no proof of it that I'm aware of and with the amount of platform specific code(lots of assembly on the SNES), it wouldn't even work on the PS1.

Procedural animation is not new or unique for MGS5, just look at Backbreaker or GTA4 or even Undergrowth.

UE4 was developed by a single guy(Tim Sweeney) as a research project up until at least 2008. After that it ramped up into full development. So development time would be about three years for that one as well. And look at all the slav-devs making their own engines.

That's what happened with Hayter. He pushed his retarded delusion that he owned the Snake character, thinking he was indispensable and will get more money.
OK, fine. Who's to blame for actor who uses video game character as a leverage in signed contract or Konami/Kojima who agreed to write a contract with Hayter? I think the latter one. From the very beginning Konami/Kojima had advantage in talks with Hayter during 1st MGS and could include or write-off many things from contract. Like Hayter voice will be used for MGS1 but Konami reserves right to change actor in following games of series simply because Konami is the owner of video game character - not Hayter.

Simple as that.

Basically to start with the history let's skip to MGS4... Kojima already see that the spaghetti source code that they are using with MGS games are really showing its age. Its basically jerry rig their aging PS2 game engine (which I think was just modified PS1 source code). And with the Lightning Bolt Action: Metal Gear Rising, the technology of the game engine cannot hold up on what he wants with the game.
I don't mind technology behind MGS4. The story is ridiculous. Everything Liquid Ocelot said prior to MGS4 goes to null because... ha ha? The amount of dogshit level twists is unbearable without any logical explanation at all. Take for example the Fortune from MGS2 and explanation of Liquid Ocelot giving why bullets cannot reach her and compare it to Vamp from MGS4. Until MGS4 no one really touched "nanomachines" theme but it becomes a meme through entire MGS4. Raiden with techno skeleton in MGR:R makes more sense than "truth" behind Vamps abilities. The forced background is jarring because everything beyond comprehension from this point can be stamped with "nanomachines" label and this should be sufficient for gamers in mind of Kojima and his crew.
It's not.
The living corpse of Solidus Snake? Nanomachines. Big Boss still alive? Nanomachines. Eva still alive? Nanomachines. Zero being over 100 years old? Nanomachines.

Zero being over 100 years old? Nanomachines.
Big Boss' support team were the OG Patriots?

That's absolutely taking the piss. And I don't even wanna hear about how fans bullied Kojima and deserved what they got in return.

None of those actors were invited back to reprise their roles. Almost as though no one associated with MGS is allowed to outshine Kojima.

It's the best one from a gameplay perspective, unquestionably. And the music is great, you must be deaf. Level design is impeccable throughout.

The only valid but very subjective complaints regard playing as Raiden for 90℅ of the game, and the unconventional story. I accept Raiden, and appreciate the story though.

Also, the Liquid/Ocelot arm thing is weird but do you even know what series you're playing? It's barely more weird than Psycho Mantis and shit like that.

And let's not pretend MGS1 was perfect. The first is clunky with a camera that makes Mario 64's look competent by comparison. Of course, there's the inferior graphics too. I usually don't care but you need at least PS2 graphics to effectively have a cinematic game done right. That's why I prefer Twin Snakes, it fixed everything.

MGS3 is a mess. It has a lot of good and potential but it's not great.

The music is in line GoldenEye, which made use of those pipe-hitting sounds.

The saxophone riffs are a reminder that this is Manhattan.

It's nowhere near as grand as MGS1; that orchestral sound gamers are suckers for. Overall, MGS1 has the most memorable soundtrack, but I do enjoy MGS2.

One thing I'll say for Raiden, he's no Mary Sue.

I think part of Kojima regrets not being able to show the Outer Heaven Uprising in 3D. Snake is playing the role of Grey Fox: as he said to Naomi, "He was so cool and precise. I was still green, and he showed me the ropes."

Fans recall that Grey Fox never left his prison cell. He didn't mentor Snake. MGS1 retconned Grey Fox, along with the ending to Zanzibar Land. So now we get to experience it vis-a-vis Snake and Solidus. "Pliskin" will share tips over the codec, like shooting out lights/fire extinguishers to blind guards.

I question it, especially when it came to designing the difficulty levels where it essentially became "lol tranq everyone and get through ASAP" for some areas on anything higher than normal. (Sediment Pool comes to mind immediately)

I question the entire swimming sequence, all the sequences requiring platforming cartwheels and hanging drops, and I'd question some of the bosses as well.

Edit: I also question anyone that says Twin Snakes fixed anything, let alone *everything* when FPV broke the game completely.
