Bail bond companies will accept 10% down (which you don't get back) and the rest as collateral - but the problem is that Chris doesn't have collateral. Nor does he have the 10%, for that matter.

Weens may be surprised to learn that if they try to post bond for Chris, they'd be liable to lose their collateral if Chris no-shows. That's a huge investment and I doubt anyone is going to do it.

Virginian here. I may be wrong, but I believe being held without bond initially is pretty standard in Virginia until bail is set by the judge at arraignment.
