Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

I DO actually like Merlwyb and I respect the organization of the Maelstrom, or at least, I respect them a hell of a lot more than the Adders. Gridania can go fuck itself any day of the week. And it was actually very pleasing to see that story note before the post-MSQ "ending" to Shadowbringers, which also makes me hope that every GC gets as much direct development as the Flames and the Maelstrom have gotten so far.

But if you think for a moment I forgot how both of those trifling ass bitches straight up bailed on us when the shit got hotter than hot in Ul'dah, then you're sorely mistaken.

My man Raubahn never doubted me, not even for a moment.
But regardless about how you feel about Gridania, Padjals are a force that should not be fucked with. Those guys can wreck shit up if you try to invade their homelands.

Why are people so excited that Asmongold is playing 14? He was a fucking blight for years on WoW and he will end up being a blight on this game as well. Fucking bald NEET that is trash at the games he plays and expects to be carried the entire way by his mongoloid followers. Bring on my top hats and/or puzzle pieces.

He's long since proven that he plays better than 90% of XIV's playerbase because he actually read his fucking tooltips and learned how his abilities work. Sort of. His own raid awareness still needs some work and he still needs to figure out how to cycle his defense CDs better, but he's done a whole world better than a lot of players, both new and old, considering he successfully cleared all of Coil at minimum iLevel and synched recently.

Hell, even I'm blindsided by how much I've enjoyed watching him play through XIV because I also used to think he was just a mouthy shitter. Which, he still is, to be honest, but at least he can hang and enjoy what he's doing at the same time.

because you can knock out AV in 20 minutes and level 47-50 in under 2 hours this way. have you seen the average AV group?
can't remember if you get extra loot as well, but did a lot of farming for glamours with my squadron.
I do, it's just shockingly surprising how FUBAR a single AV run can go just in the first room alone. If anyone's gotta run a AV group, they gotta know what to do while explaining what-to-do/where-to-step/ask if the group wants to kill the pods or let them spawn for more XP. But AV's loot ain't exactly anything to write home about and the Seedling minion's cheap on the MB.

Can you import HUD from one char to another without copypasting the matrix like a weirdo yet? Not even asking from other players.
Sadly, you can't. You gotta redo your HUD/settings by hand in-between characters.

It’s boring as hell and mostly done because the trinkets usually end up being very strong every other raid tier.
Edit: Were Darkmoon Decks won from there and were tradable or crafted with mats from the faire? I bought one on the auction house because I hated Darkmoon.

I dunno about classic, but recently in retail the decks are good for one tier and then are quickly forgotten. You could make them by just buying the cards of the whole deck, turn them in when the faire comes to get your trinket.

Yes, you can. Just copy the contents of the main character's settings folder: (Users/"You"/Documents/my games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn) and put them in the new one. CHECK THE FUCKING CREATION DATE - DELETED/RENAMED CHARACTERS WILL BE THERE, the folders are poorly named.

Now Maximilian's going back on FFXIV after rage quitting whatever fighting game/MMO he was on, also trying to jump on the hype train for that revenue money. Fucking ridiculous.

Then don't watch him. This Asmongold a-logging in this thread is getting very annoying.

Are you talking about Maximilian Dood? Yeah I’ve been seeing people like Cohn, Penguinz0, Summ1t, Esfand, and Swifty Twitch steaming it over the weekend. I really don’t think this hype train is going to last. Some ordinary gamers seemed genuinely enthused by the game meanwhile I’m getting fake vibes from everyone else.

Patch notes are up, boys and girls.

It's about what you'd expect from the final content patch of the expansion: Everything off lockout, Savage nerfed, Resistance weapon requirements slightly nerfed (?).

But now we got the 30 minute AFK logout timer re-implemented. Thanks, streamers.

From the linked archive earlier. I feel like this is probably the best post of that.

So here's what I know about a bunch of these guys:
Cohh - Playing because it was a stretch charity goal. Made it super high as a gag, didn't expect anyone to donate that much. Someone did, but it eventually turned out to be a scammer despite multiple layers of checks to prevent it (guy scammed ACH payments somehow). Cohh decided to keep going though anyways, and has posted a video talking about how the MMO bug has bit him again, and he at least wants to see the story to completion.
Penguin0/Moistcr1tikal - Wanted to play it last year, but chat convinced him not to. Decided to say fuckit and start playing earlier in the week. I watched him play, and he's not narrating and is his typical monotone self. But he's said he likes it a lot so far.
Summit1g - Already level 45+. Watched the full NoClip today and was losing his mind over some of the ballsy moves Yoshi-P made during development. Seems to be enjoying it, but I don't watch him regularly.
Esfand - Playing because he got meme'd on Twitter with a "If a picture of this tree stump gets 10k likes, I'll play FFXIV." He's here now. Seems to really be liking it. Earlier today praised the new player experience for doing a damn good job easing in total MMO newbies to the genre knowing it might attract regular Final Fantasy nerds, not just MMO nerds. Also, this clip is a fucking riot.
Swifty - I've always known him to be a PVP player like Bajheera. He's the one that's a big question mark to me here. Haven't watched anything of his yet.
Maximillian Dood - FF7 is his favorite game of all time. Don't know his position on MMOs. Might be interesting to see if it actually holds his attention.

Either way, the amount of eyes this is going to bring by spreading to the more normie streamers is massive.

Beyond the streamers too, the games journalists have turned on World of Warcraft. Bellular was talking about this in his latest podcast, sharing such wonderful articles as:
World of Warcraft's latest cinematic is a narrative disaster and players hate it
WoW Disappointment, Plus Twitch, Start Mass Exodus Into Final Fantasy XIV
Blizzard learned all the wrong lessons from the MCU
Timestamp below for the start of the conversation (some delays due to equipment problems).

All of these factors together have shown that not only is Wow capable of bleeding, but it's killable. Hopefully we can finally see the MMO market start to break free of it's stranglehold and have it bring in a more healthy environment.

In the last live letter, allegedly Hiroyuki (guy who runs 4chan now) told Yoshida about how XIV is beating WoW. Yoshida says it's not about beating WoW, he was hired to make XIV good after what a shitshow 1.0 is and still owes it to WoW as an inspiration on how to make an MMO. Granted, it was unsubtitled so I don't know how truthful it is but can you imagine being him right now watching your inspiration become a sinking ship?

I know that method was asking if there was a new HUD update I didn't know about to facilitate importing huds because someone said "HUD's top notch", guess importing huds is never happening boyos. Also side-note for those doing this: make sure the buttons in there are not from an advance class in your level 1 toon, last time I did that the abilities from the adv class were all glitchy in the hotbar (they fix themselves when you finally get the class but you don't wanna be staring for 50 levels at the yucky error buttons).

As entertaining as Asmongold is on his FFXIV streams the current influx on new gamers Magdeburg impossible to play on Saturday and Sunday. I am talking Chaos data Center Europe not being able to load character data. Logging in wasn’t even a question by that point.
As far as I can remember Maximillian Dood was heavily in FFXI back then. So he has a backstory on mmos being a fucking timesink.

I started playing last Monday. After lvling healer to 55 with mainquest I lvld miner to 70, that took the longest. Now goldsmith, armorer, blacksmith are also 70. it’s soo easy compared to 11.
Craftwhore galore is the one thing I want in mmo‘s.

Someone’s running a kickstarter for

That shit looks god awful anyway, I can't believe 80 idiots got 6k together to pay for something like this. They're also not winning me over with the Kickstarter images.

In other news, Yoshi P addressed the massive influx of people coming in (most likely from Twitch streamers playing it).

What is an Ita-bag?
An Ita-bag is a bag that no longer looks like a bag. Instead it is covered with badges, keyrings, and anything that is featuring your favourite character! It might look weird, but that’s why we call them Ita-bag or Itaba!

It is written 痛バッグ in Japanese. 痛 means ‘painful’ or ‘cringy’ and バッグ means ‘bag’…so in other words ‘painful/cringy bag’! They are not painful to their owners, of course, but Ita-bags might looks a little weird or cringy to look at for people who are not very comfortable with otaku culture.
It writes itself, literally and figuratively.

Of note, this paragraph interested me the most:
Problem 1: Insufficient Servers Due to Semiconductor Shortage The COVID-19 pandemic has seen an extreme drop in semiconductor production in factories across the globe. This, coupled with an increase in demand for electronics due to more people working at home, has resulted in an international shortage of semiconductors that, in turn, has resulted in a prolonged delay in the delivery of the servers we ordered for our data centers.

We have even looked into investing more than market value to speed up delivery, but to no avail. We are not giving up, however, and are in continued talks with vendors from around the world to find a timely solution to this problem.
Looks like the servers gonna be really shit for awhile, and I expect the problems to only get massively magnified when Endwalker hits. I hope whoever's running Squeenix IT is ready.

(slight powerlevel) I work IT and it's been terrible. Because of the lockdowns, the entire production chain for silicon has been hosed up from mineral acquisition all the way to high level production. Add on top of that the massive demand spike for laptops and other computer equipment needed for remote work, and we've been playing catch up for damn near 18 months. On top of that, unless you're getting a generic server the build times for dedicated, specialized server hardware can already be weeks to months during normal conditions. I haven't worked in server admin/purchasing for a few years, but I can't image what we're facing now. Add on top of that the data center collocation issue they described and it's just a maddening amount of time to do the work that you know needs to be done.

For those who don't know, a majority of the time companies don't own their own datacenter. What generally happens is a specialized location (typically referred to as a Collocation or Colo) will be designed with all of the power, cooling, and other resources needed for optimum server performance. The owners then lease space to companies to store their servers and (depending on the location) network equipment for use from that location. This is what Yoshi-P is referring to specifically in the "Problem 2 - Travel Restrictions" section of the post.

As an example of the above, here's a video talking about one of the largest facilities in the world based out of Reno, Nevada so you can see all that goes into the management of one of these places.
