Koreans, like most Asians in the West, are seen as a meek and non-troublemaking minority, which makes them an ideal 'thin edge of the wedge' when it comes to their identity being colonized by white men who want attention and oppression points. The same reason that transwomen went after female and lesbian spaces first.
I don't think this is what Oli is doing; I think he just wanted controversy to advance his career and does not genuinely believe he is transracial. But he would not be getting the same kind of amused, neutral media attention if he had attempted to adopt a black or even a Hispanic identity.
If the transracial movement does ever go forward, there will be an initial push of men adopting more 'privileged' racial identities first, or assuming the identities of minorities with racial boundaries that are somewhat fluid with whiteness (like middle easterners). Black transracialists will not start getting media attention until transracial cultural power is already well established.

His plastic surgery saga was all over the tabloids. But it was just more "Wacko Jacko" stuff really. If Michael so much as sneezed the tabloid rags were all over it predicting when his nose was going to fall off for good.
Oli's face isn't as bad but who knows how much more surgery he could get or what the longevity of the work he's gotten is. It looks so bad that it's obvious it was a total waste of money. Michael at least had the best of the best at his disposal and his early surgeries weren't bad. But the constant revisions made his face fall apart. He should have stopped at Thriller.

What wows me is that this weekend was the hottest of the Northwestern heatwave that literally wiped a town off a map; lots of scientists are saying this is just the beginning of shit like this happening, and the media gives more attention to some soggy autistic Englishman wanting to become a stinky chinky.
