If you look at FTMs up to around, say, 2010, they were all super butch women first. While most butch women are secure in their gender identity as women, the idea that one of them would want to become a man intuitively makes sense. Dress like a man, have masculine hobbies, a masculine job, like feminine women. But Gaydens? It doesn’t make sense. They like being feminine! They want to be feminine! But they also want terrible facial hair and top surgery. They want to be feminine without being women, that’s the thing.

The thing about Aydens is that they mistake being uncomfortable with some aspects of being a woman (such as being sexualized by men) as being uncomfortable with BEING a woman, period. So they’ll chop off their tits and go on T, but their lizard brain is still telling them that they need to reproduce, so they will revert back to feminine behaviors like wearing makeup.

But then they’ll have the terrible facial hair, which is not sexually appealing to men (or women). They’re never conventionally feminine, it’s always weird stuff.

I recently overheard a conversation between some middle aged women that shed some light on this for me. Every single one of them agreed that going through puberty as a girl absolutely sucked. They start going through a lot of changes and they aren't comfortable in their own bodies anymore. Of course this is a perfectly normal part of puberty, but the first thing a lot of young impressionable girls do these days is run to the internet and say 'Help! I don't feel right in my body!' and then the trannies and internet experts swoop and say 'OMG it's because you're actually a man.' Become a man so you don't have to deal with all the new annoyances of becoming a woman (grooming, wearing a bra, etc.), but still enjoy all the girly stuff like you did before puberty kicked in. They're just trying to recapture their youth.

Another aspect of this that annoys me is that some well-meaning adults will respond by trying to enforce dress codes and other norms on kids, or detransitioned FTMs will suddenly think they have to start being hyper feminine to be women again. There's nothing wrong with telling these girls that they don't have a choice about their bodies changing at puberty, what I disagree with is trying to force makeup and "girly" things on them as a means to counter it. They should also be taught it isn't okay to be sexually harassed just for having breasts and developing. The same goes the other way for effeminate boys, I often see people implying it's healthy to double down with stereotypical behaviour or presentation even if it doesn't come naturally to the child. There's also no need to rush things like buying a bra, sports bras are a good option sometimes. This complete confusion about what it means to be a girl or woman is why there are so many FTM detransitioners. To them it's just a concept they couldn't identify with, especially the autists.
This only applies to the children though, adults need to be responsible for their own decisions when it comes to trooning out.

Wearing makeup isn't always about attracting men, though.

I think the ones who wear makeup tend to be autoandrophiles with a thing for crossdressers. Think about it, there's endless fan art of fujoshi heartthrobs in drag.

I don’t have sympathy for adult detrans women who talk about how they didn’t like makeup or other feminine stuff and that’s why they trooned out. Lots of adult women don’t like being feminine and so choose not to do so but are aware this doesn’t make them men. It’s the complete lack of self awareness and responsibility from detrans women that gets me. They think all even slightly gnc women are transitioning when it is literally not true, because most women are aware gender isn’t based on outfits.
