Lesbian Kick really has no other notable traits at all, does she?
Also I never understood why she has elf ears...

Nope. And she has elf ears because she's supposed to be half rat or some shit. That's kind of a cool concept, especially compared to the never-ending stream of nothingness that is this comic, but nothing really happens with it so Dobby more or less just added for shits and giggles.

Wait, if she's half rat. Doesn't this make Dobbo a furry?

Not only does Dobson write "one note characters" but the most important character trait they have, seems to be something I would call a 'and also' character trait. Meaning that the 'Lesbian Kick' is first and foremost a lesbian, 'Stumpy' (right?) is a pervert, that raccoon-thing is the weird one and I am not entirely sure what Alex is, since 'being mistaken for a guy' is not a character trait. If you really want to write a good character, these 'and also' traits should come last.

Think of 'gay hairdresser'.
Congratulations, you just imagined your stereotypical gay guy.

Think of a rather taciturn male who once had a starting and promising sports-career, but after he survived cancer he ended up as a hairdresser, because he discovered that he had talent for that. And also he is gay.

Congratulations, you are not imagining your stereotypical gay guy. And probably ask yourself, if the reason for is his uncommunicative nature might be his shattered career, how he came from sports to dressing hair and what his father might think of him.

Both are still 'gay hairdressers', but Dobson has never, ever ventured far beyond the 'gay' bit.

Atea is the horny one.

Alex is the psychotic one. And the horny one.

Talus is the random one.

Uncle Peggy is also the horny one.

Sam is Dobson's self-insert.

The only character in this comic I kinda like is Sam, but that's only because I feel sorry for him. He's pretty much the ship's punching bag for no reason at all, as if being bought for 5 cents at an auction his orphanage was holding only to have him as her deck-swabbing slave wasn't sad enough already.

Don't. I realized this when I read through the entire series last night. Sam is how Dobson sees himself. He's just as much of an insert as blue bear, the only difference being that instead of strawmen Sam deals with violent horny women all day. Sam is wish-fulfillment. Read AzP with this in mind and it becomes an entirely new comic.

Última edición:
Seeing how in the world of "Alex Ze Pirate" a wooden galleon apparently has working electricity for lighting and indoor plumbing but somehow it doesn't have engines since it needs sails to navigate tells me everything I need to know about Dobson about his capabilities at world building: they are really shitty. Also, that bit where gold coins are counted as dollars made me laugh but not for the intended reasons.

At the very least Eiichiro Oda had the forethought not to make the world of One Piece our own. Don't get me wrong, some of the technologies used in that series are really out there and all over the place, but at least there is consistency to the madness that is that show, Dobson's pirate story has none. Not to mention that the characters in One Piece have goal, ambitions, back stories, traumas and scars that forged them into who they are. Dobson's character are as deep as a paper cut.
