I think it's because the FtMs that manage to pass usually pass as really femenine little manlets.

But I think that it's just that weird-looking men tend to be somewhat feminine and weird-looking women don't usually look that masculine. So TiFs can disguise themselves as that weird guy down the block with the creepy, soft features and pube beard but TiMs don't really have a similar category of woman to fit into. Morbid obesity is the one equalizer that TiMs have, but even that doesn't necessarily work for them.

There are few different reasons that make FtM better at passing. If you know what look for it's not that hard to figure it out FtM but definitely girls have advanced position to go under the radar. I think these are the key reasons why MtFs stand out more than FtMs.

1) Men are bigger. There is no getting out that women don't get as big as men. Men are taller, have bigger feet, bigger skulls, longer face, longer nose, longer arms, outie genitalia and so on. Sure there are areas where women are bigger but they basically start and end with boobs and hips. All that man size is easy to notice and hard cover up. So if someone see a bigger person they automatically register as masculine and that is easy jump into manhood if there are other masculine features.

2) Many boys go trough looking like a flat woman period during puberty. Usually this happens around early to mid teens boys when they start to get hight but haven't yet started with more manly features like wider shoulder, thicker body hair or man voice. You know all those jokes about Justin Bieber or Taylor Handson being girls? Basically that. Sure it's not something every boy goes trough but it's hardly unusual. So seeing someone who looks like kinda a lady but says that they are a dude and is dressed masculine fasion will not give you reason to look in further. So FtM might not pass as a man but can pass a boy witch is usually good enough.

3) Men are more aggressive and confrontational than women. Most people will pass our readar without giving a reason to pay attention them. With strangers we usually only notice if they give as trouble or look dangerous. As females are weaker than males on average they tend avoid conflict and use softer less noticeable ways to get what they want even if they are being jerks. That means you won't have reason to pay attention so they don't get clocked. Men otherhand including MtFs are much more likely to risk things going physical and so use intimidation tactics like yelling and stepping in close, so giving people more reason to pay attention and notice that they are trans.

4) Women's fashion is more attention crapping and it's more socially acceptable for a woman to dress like a man than aman to dress like a woman. Man in a dress looks ridiculous but a woman in man jeans and shirt look just kinda frumpy, so again one begs attention and the other doesn't. This often leading to a situation where you do correctly assign the biological sex but fail to realize that both are trying pass at opposite sex.

A lot of people in this thread insist that they don't pass any better, it seems to mostly be women (not sure if it includes lesbians) and gay men.

To me it seems like the homosexuals of both sexes are better than average at troon-clocking, for some reason. There have been a case of an FtM on the show Survivor who immediately get clocked by a gay man. And you keep hearing stories of FtMs being spotted on Grindr. I personally feel like gays and lesbians are used to gender-nonconforming people and learned to register sex or derive their attraction from the physical components more than using gendered shortcut of typically masculine or feminine clothing, accessories or what's expected of opposite sex. Some are also attracted to more gender non-conforming ones of the same sex even. Male or female skeletal frames popped out of all the 'accessories' and even body modifications put in.

This is purely personal anecdotes, maybe part of it is just being horny and they couldn't help it. I remember a post here of an FtM who's been told that "you're the only man in my life I found hot" by a lesbian, And that tranny was ranting on reddit on the fear of being misgendered. - And I would say. Yup, sadly you're basically clocked out of physical attraction and it's the reverse cotton ceiling.

But having physical attraction doesn't mean that they would want to be in relationship with troons though, because it means they have to deal with crazies.

Also, most of the time we clock male and female using characteristics like voice and facial hair a lot. Something that would not change even if MtF went on hormones. But it is for FtM, we don't really see natural women with facial hair or that kind of voice often. Most people just don't know how to discern sex in other ways that's not pulling their pants down. But if you know where to look, it'll be easier to spot one.

also when an ftm is clocked, people are much less likely to make a scene or get confrontational with her than when they clock an mtf.

Underrated point here, you clock fewer FtMs in part because you don't clock them as even being troons. There's nothing really odd about wearing male clothing as a woman, and a non-trivial number of heterosexual female troons can't even resist incorporating slightly feminine coded shit into their dress which makes it even worse.
