Those diseases were deadly to both adults and children. Polio could kill you or make you disabled for life or have to live the rest of your life in an iron lung. Having vaccines to cure those diseases was a godsend, although I'm sure there were skeptics that had to be won over, and then you have the total antivaxxers who choose to roll the dice. But most people were/are fine taking tried and true vaccines because the alternative is a horror show.

This? Who knows what's in those vaccines for a variance of the flu/cold that has more than a 99% survival rate. Children rarely even get it much less get seriously ill. It's the ultimate marriage of government control and grift.

Its a Coronavirus (family: Coronaviridae)

4/6 human coronaviruses get lumped as "common colds" (despite at least 1 of them being arguably worse than COVID because it murks kids rather than boomers), two are SARS-1 & MERS which are serious fucking shit, like 1/10 dead level shit. The 4 "common cold coronaviruses" make up anywhere from 7-20% of "colds" depending on the year and prevalence.

Most other "colds" are majority Rhinoviruses (family: Picornoviridae), with a few others such as Adenoviruses mixed in. However, the Coronoviridae and Picornoviridae are in the same the same taxonomic class (class: Pisoniviricetes), so its at least as accurate as saying "snakes and turtles are both reptiles" or "monkeys and cats are both mammals".

The polio roll out was a disaster as multiple companies attempted to manufacture the vaccine in a rush to get it onto the market, mistakes were made and people got polio from the vaccine itself.
