That doesn't even make sense. If the goal on friday is 3000 $ and the viewer tips whittle it down by 400$ a day until then. The money is coming from the same 10 or so people. What's the difference between throwing money at him now or in 5-6 days? Sounds like a bullshit way of saying "Give money now"
You're totally correct. Except you said 'the goal on Friday is $3000'... the key detail here is that Phil has not said what the goal on Friday will be. That means he is working with a target and criteria that he has hidden. He has not provided a reason for why this needs to be hidden. We're supposed to believe that the goal exists for Friday, let's say $3k, and that if tips goals are hit, that can be shaved down to $400 because the week is so positive. But we're supposed to just trust that Phil is doing this PigMath Behind the Scenes.
What's actually happening is that Phil just wants to see how much he can get before Friday, but he already broadly knows what he wants
on Friday. This is all disingenuous, and he doesn't want some whale to drop $1k tomorrow and then he can't still have his Friday payday, or tips to slow down because the crisis has been covered. He wants the whale to drop $1k tomorrow... and then keep the fundraiser at the $3k he was planning the whole time, but say it
would have been $4k when he reveals it. Phil is probably going to try to fundraise the majority of the mortgage payment on Friday, and then blow everything that came in during the week. He's currently trying to bait his spending money out of the whales, then Friday is already fixed to pay the necessary bills.
Once again, if his whales had any sense, they'd call his bluff and give him
nothing after tomorrow, and save their hard earned money for Friday. If Phil is being honest, then Friday will be the value he needs, and if the whales wait, they can give him exactly what he needs and not put themselves out any further than that. There's no reason to give him anything before then if Friday is just going to be the sum of everything he still needs. If he has to beg during the week for immediate money, then he is lying - it would mean there are other, immediate expenses
after his day off (despite not leaving the house) that he is putting that money towards, and that means that the money earned during the week is not actually reducing the Friday target. It would not be hard to twist his arm and expose him, because this system he has set up is nonsense and only functions if it is a scam.
Fortunately for Phil, his whales have a massive surplus of chromosomes, so they're going to apply no critical thought to this mess.
Fortunately for us, Phil will squander the money he scams anyway, and we're going to need some new exciting emergency. Every. Single. Month.
